Mat

Mat is 8. I've often wondered about him. He's very high energy and loates being alone for any reason--came out of the womb that way. Seriously. And for as bad as I felt last week about him crying in the van, I really think it was a lesson for him. Almost everytime he 'whines' now, I tell remind him of being a young man. Today he was whining about me not taking the library books up for him. My hands were sort of full. That's not the point IMO. I'm not his slave. I told him that he needs to build his muscles (he knows I use weights when I exercise) and that being a young man, means taking care of your responsibilities (his library books) and that means carrying them up the stairs yourself (Joey likes the elevator). I've also noticed that he's been holding the door open for me w/o fail lately.

He just struggles so w/wanting to be funny (to the point that it's distracting and inane) and it's considered misbehaving and I really get my stomach tied up in knots over it. He's matured soooooo much adn I've made it a point to give him one, good, sincere compliment before bed (other times as I 'catch' him being good,b ut I make it a point right before bed) every night.

Having said all that, he is still a kid and I forget that, AND Joey is apparently learning how to test authority and I loathe that. I know for Joey it's more that he's just learning how to act in social situations (Sunday School). They said he keeps at them until they acknowledge he's talking (even in the middle of their teaching) and gets louder and louder (IWO, ignoring him doesn't get the point across). He's the youngest one in there so I know that's part of it, but it was his idea to go and I do think he's quite capable of behaving. I told them they just need to be firm w/him and tell him to sit down and zip it.

I guess in my heart I long for those kids who sit still and are quiet and never buck their parents. WOW what a concept! Not that mine 'buck' us per se, but they are just constantly on the move and into something, asking questions, etc, etc. I jsut keep telling myself that God made them that way and I am supposed help Him shape the clay He gave me. That is so hard. Why can't God want me to parent them like *I* want to parent them?!?!?!LOL

Those kids you sometimes long for don't exist, and if they did, you'd be bored with them, LOL!

I've seen some that are good foolers then. And yes, I'd be bored w/in 10 minutes. BUt there are some days............LOL

I was one of those kids. My parents never knew I was in the house at all. I was the quiet one. And BOY did I get a lesson with my son. SHEW....lol
