Sure 'socialization' is part of why I keep my boys out of PS, but I never thought of it the way this lady phrased it today. Of course the phrase completely slips my mind at the moment. But it certainly did give me a great mindset. She has 3 grown children and talked about how her kids are so very comfy IN THEIR OWN SKIN. They don't rely on ppl for opinions or affirmations (YKWIM). They are very well adjusted adults and contributing members of society. It was refreshing to say the least. It was nice to have a veteran (she also has a 13yo and 7yo) to remind us of these things.

I am already seeing that "comfortable in her own skin" phenomenon with Katy, even though she is only 11. She is a shy person by nature, but her self-image is pretty realistic, and she doesn't worry about it when others point out things that would just mortify many 11-year-old girls. She is very accepting of that fact that she is who God made her to be, rather than worrying that she is who her peers tell her she is.
