PCOS is soooooo frustrating

09:53, 2006-Mar-14 .. 0 comments .. Link

My sister is in her mid-twenties and she's exhibiting some classic PCOS signs and the doc says he's stumped. She was referred to him by her gyn and he's now referring her to an endocrinologist. And I'm glad. At least they aren't doing nothing (like they did me at that age ). I wish ppl would realize PCOS is a HEALTH issue and not just a fertility issue, this mainly includes DOCTORS. And since I have clotting probs, they did test her extensively for one and she 'cleared' the other basic panel, but so did I and yet they found 2 for me when they ran specific tests. And I was at the lab of the guy who created the screening panel for them. Don't get me wrong, I really hope she does NOT have clotting probs, but they are hereditary so that's the concern.

So the new doc reran all the bloodwork the other one did and she's going to get the actual numbers and submit them to the specialist I am under. He's absolutely wonderful. I have referred countless ppl to him and he does not charge unless you actually SEE him. He'll review labs, email, etc just to help you. Plus he already knows my situation and I think it would help him to guide her better.

I guess I've just always worried about this for her. She's a nurse and seemingly intelligent so I know she gets it and knows what to do. But it just gets so old. They aren't ttc from what she says and I think that's it. I think they WANT to have kids and she wants to get all this under control so she doesn't have to suffer miscarriages and a horrible time getting pg. But I am really glad she's doing this just for her health. Diabetes is no fun and you are basically guaranteed that by age 60. Not to mention the myriad of other things associated w/PCOS.

Someday it will all be understood. And we can enjoy a greater quality of life........
