Baseball..........

If I didn't love sports so much, this wouldn't be so painful. Don't get me wrong--I do not care for college or pro stuff in the least. I love the little town sports. To watch the children flourish as they make their first double play, run towards 3rd after hitting a ball in Tball, hit the ball for hte first time and stand in astonishment at their accomplishment (forgetting to run). I loved when I coached. I hated the politics, but I loved the children.

I said earlier this season that I had thought about coaching again. Tball. I try to keep a low profile in the league that we are involved in. I still think that might  be best. However today, do to a mix up, I helped. Dh told me last night to help if I wanted. So I decided that might not hurt. I played years of ball from age 4 until 17 and I was rather decent. Dh was wanting ot go to that truck pull so I was going to fill in for him where he was to help.

At first that was int he batting cage. But that guy seemed to have it under control and I was mainly standing, which is not something I do well (this can be detrimental!LOL). So then it started raining and I went to the dugout and sat w/my mom and Joey and ate the sandwich I packed. By the time it stopped the man who was helping the coach field (he was catching the balls for him so he could just bat) was MIA so I jumped in. Easy enuf. Coach hits a few and then asks if my DH played ball. I honestly think he did, but not much. So I simply answered that we both had. A few Qs about Mat's ball history--which I hope I didn't say much out of line. He's good friends w/the commissioner so I have to be very careful. He asked if Mat didn't play last year and I said 'not intentionly'. I told him that Mat sat the bench alot last year and he asked why and I told him that he'd have to ask those coaches (one of which is the now commissioner). He made a grunt that implied that he got the point. Next thing I know HE HANDS ME THE BAT AND TELLS ME TO HIT TO THEM!!!!!!!!!!!! We had a sweet deal going! 4 boys on the field, 3 in their game positions and Mat on 1st w/a man helping him play. WHAT?!?!?!?!? So I take the bat and the man came up to catch for me (it was a teeny tiny catching glove and the men can't even get there hands in it!LOL But I have very small hands so it fit me!LOL) and my first hit was to the shortstop, coaches' son adn I HIT HIM!!!!!!!! It bounced and hit his forearm and was starting to puff up so the man and I were going to get an ice pack out of my cooler and the coach was back by then and yelled at his son NOT to leave the diamond! So I hit a few more, but  that sort of rattled me. So I missed about 3 in a row and was trying to figure a way out of this and then started hitting again!LOL My mom wasn't helping and I told her to knock the commentary off !LOL Then another dad came over and he started running bases. The boys LOVED it!!!!!!!!! The coach never did come back to the field (he went over to the batting cages). THE PARENTS HAD A BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is what it's all about right?LOL The boys learned as well, but it was in a more relaxed manner and I think it helped to lighten things up a bit.

Oh yea, I forgot part of my point!ROTFL!!!!!!!! The coach asked me why Dh and I didn't coach!!! I told him taht I wasn't sure that women were welcomed and I really wasn't sure how I felt about coaching boys that age anyway. I'll help,b ut I in no way shape or form want to be HEAD coach w/all the political junk that goes on. But it did give me somethign to think on...........

Oh girl you are sooo lucky, at least you like the sports. I too had to sit thru baseball, softball, football (all the way thru high school) soccer and karate for years. Not too mention numerous dance recitals and band concerts. Isn't being a mom a wonderful job? LOL
