Staying at home?

What does that mean to you? I know SAHMs who are NEVER HOME! That was not my point of being a SAHM! I actually schedule at least ONE DAY (preferably 2 or 3) a week that we are HOME. No leaving for anything. I obviously can find many things to do around here. Cleaning, cooking, baking, organizing, schoolwork, etc. I LOVE simply staying home. We don't bother getting dressed and get everything done for the day in the morning and spend the afternoon doing whatnot. I think it's imperative for children to have this opportunity--to just BE. To enjoy being a child and see that being 'bored' is OK. Altho I've never heard my children utter those words!ROTFL!

I also think it provides for a more relaxed environment at home. All of the 'rush rush' of the rat race is gone. No bags to pack, places to be, money to spend, errands to run, etc, etc. Sure we do those things, but I try to plan it on days when I am scheduled to be in town anyway. I'm all for conserving resources as much as possible and don't really enjoy the 25-30 min it takes me to get to town to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I like living in the country, but I do not usually enjoy the amount of time it takes to get to town.

Ok, speaking of being home, it's time to train a child.........

Im like you, I just love staying home. There are days and days that I just stay with my flannel jammie pants on. If I never had to leave and they would deliver my groceries, I would be OK with that.

enjoyed reading your entry. I'm a part-time SAHM & have to agree with you. (I work afternoon's 4.30pm to 11.00pm stocking shelves, four nights a week) this is great as I can home school my children. We love staying home during the day. Thursdays are my day off so that day we usually do something fun like visit library, museum, Reef HQ & then do my grocery shop on the way home.

This term burns my rear end :)
The term SAHM -vs- WM is the worlds way of "dividing" us even further.
When someone says: I am a SAHM, the image that has been pounded into our brains is one of two. Either she is a "Donna Reed" type, or she is a "lazy, lay on the couch and eat bon bons all day" type. She is usually portrayed as "uneducated, lazy, or a religious freak". Those are the two images that the media has beat into our brains about *what* a SAHM is.

When someone says: I am a Working Mom, you instantly get the image of a *wonder woman*. The TV sitcoms are full of these "wonder women".The message beat into our brains is "we can have it all". The "Working Mom" is to be looked upon with great honor, and admiration. She can hold down a 9-5, make 40K a year, run the kids to soccer, get dinner on the table, touch on home work, and tuck the kids into bed.......wa la!! Don'tcha wanna be just like her??

Ok, dismounting soap box.

THIS is my last week of work. I am quitting my part time waitress job to be home FULL time with my kids.
I think when I am asked: What do you do? I will answer:
I am a wife, and mother of 3. I am doing exactly what God Created me for!!
