Thanksgiving!!!!!!!

09:44, 2006-Nov-27 .. Posted in daily life .. 0 comments .. Link

With the time change, Joey was up at 5:30 their time and MIL was asked to be the eucharistic minister at 7:30 Mass so I told her that Joey and I could go. I figured Mat would still sleep and this would let DH get some much needed rest. Joey was up on time and Mat was up early, but he was raring to tag along w/FIL doing the feeding and stuff outside. He really wanted to drive the tractor, but I figured DH was still in the house by himself to rest so it didnt' matter. The Mass was very nice! Ppl brought food into to be blessed and the homily was great! It was geared towards mothers and what chaos laid ahead for them and that they need to remember to be grateful for it. Exactly what I had been telling myself on the drive out! It was just such a great way to start a Thanksgiving. I've not done that before and may request that we try it again next year. That was the calm before the storm!LOL We got back and MIL thought it was too early to make much so naturally she was running around at the last minute doing stuff. We did make it to Tday on time, with all the food we needed. It was such a GORGEOUS day here!!!!!!!! In the 60s/70s! Lots of ppl ate outside even! The kids played outside a good part of the time that we were there too. I was getting antsy to leave after awhile, but DH was in no rush. So when MIL said she was leaving, I jumped ship w/her!LOL But she was leaving to go down to her dd, who was hostingn Tday for her ILs. Dh showed up eventually adn we went down there to make an appearance. Joey goes to bed at 6:30 their time so DH, JOey and I left then. Mat and MIL stayed to enjoy the ppl.

I need to explain something about MIL. I'm a type A (Martha) and she's not.........LOL She's very much a Mary! So when we left for the 1st Tday that she made food for, she left the kitchen a disaster. This is just how she operates. It's taken me MANY years to get used to this because I just could not leave my kitchen looking like that EVER! I am a 'clean as you go' type person so it's really hard for me sometimes. She slings food on the floors and counters and leaves trash sitting out and pots nad pans, etc. I do NOT mean that she is a dirty person AT ALL. We just do things differently. Very differently. So when Dh adn I got back from his sister's, the kitchen was still a disaster. I tried to ignore it for awhile by playing spider solitare, but no dice. I just can't relax w/that stuff there. MIL can ignore all day (And then clean it at night when we are tring to sleep.......). So I started in. Cleaned off the table, the counters, filled and ran the dishwasher, washed what didn't fit and dried and put that away, wiped down the table and counters and since I love to be barefoot and can't stand anything on the floor (pergo), I vacuumed. Well she busted me putting up the vacuum and started scolding me. (the kitchen was spotless by then!LOL) I didn't say anythign other than I didn't mind. And I don't. I was bored, had nervous energy, couldn't walk cuz of SIL's rotwiler (never know if it's out or not) and I figure the least I can do is clean up messes. It seemed like a perfect fit. Plus it was done and she could just relax the rest of the evening. I know she HATES cleaning--she had a cleaning lady for years (like 30), etc, etc.  And she has said over and over again taht she doesn't care if someone comes in and does stuff like that so I'm not offending her or messing w/'her turf'.

Anyway, after that, we convinced Mat to go to bed and I was really tired from lack of sleep from the night before and Dh asked if I wanted my tylenol PM and I said t hat I was tired enuf to sleep fine. I was wrong............LOL
