My morning in the kitchen.......

I'm pretty average in the kitchen. I wing things often and stay w/in my comfort zone. I wanted to take a fruit dip and some apples to my crop today. It's fall and cool so that would be fun, yk? I was thinking I could mix some marshmellow cream and cream cheese and add some cinnamon. Hmmmmmm, I have lots of marshmellows, I bet I can mix that w/butter for marshmellow cream (anyone see where this is heading yet?). I have scads of mini marshmellows so I use those. All marshmellows are NOT created equal.;) It dawned on my after I had slightly scorched them when I left the pan to attend to Joey that the stuff they use to make them not stick together is more in quantity on the smaller ones, thus making it harder to achieve melting status. Let's add a skosh more butter. Ok, I'm pretty frustrated by this point. I toss in the cream cheese to see if it would help. After nearly 30 min, I had a pile of goo. Maybe I just need to whip some air in it? I get out the mixer. No. Maybe i need to add some sugar. Oh, powdered sugar. Nothing. Ok, how about more powdered sugar AND some milk. A bit of progress, but  not really sweet tasting so more powdered sugar. Ok, how about regular sugar. That did more. I add more sugar. It's now at least not a buttery globby mess. It's a slightly runny and gooey mess that I really don't know what to do with. It's goign anyway. I thought about tossing in brown sugar, sucanat and molasses for kicks, but I decided it was wise to only waste a little bit of money this morning.;)

In addition to that, I wanted ot make chili in the CP for supper. I'll be tired when I get home from the crop and won't want to cook. Well then I remembered I bought the stuff to corn chowder so I move to that. Still frustrated from the fruit dip fiasco, I basically thru everything in the crock pot, frozen and all and turned it on. That is the beauty of the crock pot, right? I didn't have any ham cubes and there is no meat in this, which means DH will balk. I really wish he'd at least try one meatless meal a month. But since I"m going to be at Aldi buying the scone mix, I'll see if they have any. I don't remember seeing any. I was going to nuke the cubes and toss them in the crock pot and let it simmer for a bit. It may require a trip to the 'real' grocery........
