Projects and Patience

Tonight I casually mentioned to DH that we need an incubator to hatch chicks.  He looked at me like I was off my rocker.  I asked him how else did he think we would get 50 chicks to raise for meat birds, plus the replacement layers.  Then he really looked at me like I was off my rocker.  He hates plucking chickens.  I got online and looked up how to make a chicken plucker. 

That's our relationship - I think up the projects and he plugs along trying to keep up on everything.  He suggested that we just try and maintain the current projects.  I just can't . . . and here is why.  I can't stand buying our food from the store which is coated on things not good for us or shipped from far away, buying clothing made overseas out of synthetic fiber, treating our illnesses with chemicals which made us ill in the first place, and using things up and throwing them away. 

All of these things seem so wrong to me that my skin crawls at the thought.  We have bought into this consumerism and debt ridden culture that is all about the quick fix.  It is so much easier to run to the store and get our needs immediately met.

So yes I am impatient.  I want to have my own fruit and my own meat and clothes I made out of real fabrics and herbs for medicines and homemade soaps and clothes dried on the line and so much more . . .

I am in agreement with you here. I wish we had more land to be able to have a small garden and some chickens at least.
