If you read regularly you may be aware of our children, but just in case you are new here is a run down. We have a daughter 10, daughter 8, son 3, son 2, and daughter 1. We are expecting a baby boy January 7th. We have been blessed with children through adoption and thus our expecting is not like others, but we believe a sibling to our other children will be placed with us when his mother delivers. November 1st marks our official transition to winter homesteading routines. I finished the first round of dresses for the oldest girls. I have cut out two more jumpers for my oldest daughter. My 8 year old gets handme downs and has enough dresses now. We have not make a decision about being all dress-wearing, but I am preparing just in case. I tried to start knitting socks for the girls to wear around the house, but when I bought the needles to knit in the round the space between them is too long. I am going to check the store to see if I can get a set with a shorter section. Today we also baked - pumpkin bars and applesauce, oatmeal cookies. I still need to make some bread. I am almost out of wheat and when I ordered it the last two times it was backordered. I finally called and had some UPSed but it has not arrived yet. Hopefully it will arrive on Monday. We began homeschooling last week. It has been a good experience so far. Only 10 year old daughter is doing it to begin with. We are adjusting with her and then we will consider the 8 year old. I love the flow of things and am finding it provides more structure to the pre-school activities I have been doing with the boys. We are getting to cover many more subjects than school did and we get to gear school work to our interests, values, and home life. We are in the process of purchasing some additional animals for our homestead. We will probably get a billy goat as well as some sheep. Our sow also needs to be bred so we can get more piglets on the road to fattening up. There always seems to be more to do then we have time for, but we keep plugging along realizing that people have probably felt like that since the beginning of time. I heard something on the radio the other day that has really been bothering me. A representative of the EPA was on the radio saying that they had been meeting with the White House regarding conserving oil. She spoke of 3 possbilities - year around daylight savings time, reducing the speed limit to 55, and a Sunday driving ban. A Sunday driving ban!!! That feels to me like an attack on the Christian values of our country when it would considered banning people from driving to Church. I don't want to start a panic, but it has really been weighing on my heart and I am going to keep my eyes and ears open for any of this foolishness. |
