Fall Has Arrived

The rain seems to have arrived to stay for the season.  The kids and I went out to look for mushrooms and pick elderberries yesterday.  We got a fair amount of elderberries but no mushrooms.  The girls and I got soaking wet.  When we got back I went out and harvested about 5 gallons of produce still in the garden.  We have some kind of mole that ate my carrots and beets.  That is so frustrating.  I still have some tomatoes and dry beans that need to be picked up.

I am still canning.  I did not get corn done but I put some in the freezer.  We did enjoy eating quite a bit from our garden.  I need to do something with the remaining tomatoes and cucumbers.  Applesauce needs to be done as well as juice.  I also have some peppers that I was considering making pepper jelly out of.  Some much to do.

I am looking forward to transitioning to winter projects.  I have a timeline I follow and during the peak harvest and canning months I don't work on "winter" projects because I become distracted by them and forget to get all my canning and harvesting done.  "Winter" projects include sewing, quilting, knitting, and crocheting.  I have a king size quilt that I am sewing all by hand and I have all the top done other than putting it together.  I want to move on to actually quilting it which will mean my husband will need to build me a quilting frame.  I have scarves I was working on for the girls but they wanted store bought ones so I guess I'll finish these for another year.  The boys could use some scarves also.

We also have a lot of organization type activities going on.  We may be getting a new little one towards Christmas and so we want to have everything ready.  We are working now to make sure that we are ready to go if we get the call.  I have just been realizing lately how much we have to do regarding getting our home organized, but we are also probably going to start remodeling.  I have been thinking about letting it all go until we are done with the remodel and we have built in more storage.
