Saturday on the Homestead

We've enjoyed the week of nice weather we've had which has meant laundry hanging on the line, weeding flower beds, and getting flowers planted.  We have a few more perennials to plant, but things are looking real nice around here.  Each year a make a few investments in plants.  This house had nice beds established once we cleared all the weeds, but I like more of a cottage look and want the beds to be real full of items.  I have one bed with established flowering shrubs that I am filling in around with other flowering perennials to try and achieve that look.  Hopefully over time I will get there.  I am putting all of my effort and buying power in to this one bed along with my herb garden.

Today we have some general cleaning to do around the house, but we also need to pick strawberries and freeze them.  I really did not want to take the little ones to pick strawberries, but DH is gone all day to a "burn to learn" as he is a volunteer fire fighter.  We'll just have to figure it out.  I may just pay for them already picked.  It would be a good opportunity for us also to visit the farmer's market and the library.  Two things we don't usually venture out to do because of the high cost of fuel.

I have one last freezer to cleanout and defrost, which means moving everything that I had condensed in to it.  I will move these items back out to the two already cleaned freezers and then clean this one.  I will leave this small one unplugged for awhile.  I also want to research buying a new seal for the door so that it will run more efficiently.

This should be a pretty full day on our homestead, I hope your's is full . . .

It has been a great season to continue to do things to make more of a homestead. I find I do these things to make it look and feel nice when we can sit back and enjoy our place, but then I would rather be out there doing rather than sitting back looking!
