Sunday on the Homestead

Well today I took a four hour nap!  I must have really needed it because I couldn't seem to make myself wake up and do something more productive.  Yesterday I really worked hard on the canning knowing that I needed a break today.  We processed 300 ears of corn into the freezer and into jars.  I still have some that needs canning stored in the refrigerator, but that is the easy part.  We also did 40 pounds of peaches and juiced a batch of tomatoes and made tomato paste.  I woke up at 4:00 am to check on the tomato paste and it was ready to put in the canner so I went ahead and did it.  DH is starting to sing a song about me being the crazy woman.  This morning I did a quick 14 jars of whole tomatoes and then we had breakfast and went to church followed by my nap.

I have about 50 pounds of tomatoes on my kitchen counter and 50 pounds of peaches.  The beans need picking, too.  Apples are coming out our ears and pears need to be picked.  I find it extremely difficult to force myself not to work on something when so much is staring at me that needs to be done.  I told me DH that he has been a bad influence on me in that regard - we can't rest when there is work to do.  He is framing the inside of his barn where his shop will be and trying to finish the new pig fencing so he can move them.  He'll work all day tomorrow on the barn and the kids and I will return to preserving like made people.

Now don't get me wrong, I am in no way complaining that DH is hard working.  I am a farm girl born and raised and I watched my father work most all the time.  I think I would go crazy if DH sat around and watched TV when there was work to do.  However, God designed us to rest as well as work hard and balance is a good thing.  I think I'll go pick the green beans.  Happy Homesteading!
