I apologize for not blogging lately, but I have had technical difficulties. Our dial-up service is sometimes unpredictable and then when I have a lovely post almost written along comes a 2-year old who shuts down my program. It is snowing tons here lately. We ususally just have less than half-a-dozen snow days and it usually melts by noon. We have had 1.5 feet this past week. Another snow storm is suppose to dump on us tonight. DH has been home all week working on projects around here. It is such a blessing. It really has made us realize that we want him home almost all the time. We are considering farming for "profit" to make it happen. I am busily preparing for the holidays. We finished the boys little dress up outfits - a cowboy and indian. We (oldes DD is helping me) have almost finished 3 nightgowns for the other daughters. We will finish these up tonight. I have one special blanket finished and one more almost done. I was sorry I was unable to get a nightgown done for the oldest daughter. I will have to wait until I can get more fabric. Holiday baking and food prep has started. My mother and her husband will be with us for several days, so we want to do as much cooking ahead of time as possible. I want to enjoy the time together and not be cooking the entire time. It is our family tradition to have a special Christmas Eve dinner. It is a seven course plated dinner so there is a lot of cooking to do for it. Christmas morning we will have a buffet of baked items to hold people over until the brunch after gift opening. Then of course I have brunch cooking and baking to do. My sister is bringing some items for brunch and her family will be joining us. Our sow had her piglets right before the cold weather hit. She had nine live births and they are all doing great. We are thinking of keeping one of the females as another sow. We are also considering right now what other animals we want to add to our homestead this spring. We are thinking a boar and some sheep with a ram. We need to work on fencing first. This spring we are planning to grow some our own feed. This will be a fun experiment. I'll let you know who it goes. |
