Update from the Farm

Check out my other new entry below for a new series I am starting.  I also wanted to update you about the goings on around here.

We have been sewing.  We have almost finished 4 new jumpers for my DD 2 yo.  We also did a new set of matching dresses for my 4 daughters and myself.  It is a lovely brown with some small peach/pink flowers.  I know, I know - post pictures.  I have such difficulty on dial up posting pictures.

We are settling in to a nice routine and schedule around here.  I have been fiddling with a master schedule for sometime.  Thinking and praying about what was most important and how we should spend our time.  How to get it all in was a challenge.  I also wanted to consider working with people's natural rhythms, such as the little kids have a difficulty playing on their own in the morning but do better at that in the afternoons.  I also wanted to consider how to have flexibility for appointments and trips to town.

The new schedule we have been doing for about a month and it is working great.  DH is even able to follow it when he is home on Mondays with the kids.  By pushing back the school start time, I was able to find morning baking and outside chore time.  I also scheduled a block of time to work on school projects that is not subject specific, while some subjects have specific times.  This allows us work on the integrated projects of our new home school plan.

For non-school days we have identified blocks where we can schedule appointments, run to town, clean the house, or work on seasonal projects.  This leaves the "bones" of our schedule in place all the time - meals, naps, daily chores, devotions.  This is really helpful.

I am off to feed my vinegars, sourdough starter, amish sweet bread starters, and kombucha.  This is part of my Saturday morning routine while my oldest bakes.  At this time I also make my bathroom wipes and diaper wipes up for the week.  Grouping these types of activities and having a set time to complete them helps make sure it all gets done.

It sounds like a great plan. I enjoy reading all about your "doings" on the farm. I think a schedule really helps in all situations.
