Home Schooling
|
I have been busy ordering new books for the kids and putting together our new homeschooling plan. We are really excited to get started. I have been laying out the first 12 weeks. We will be studying history, moving chronologically through the Bible; reading the corresponding Bible text; studying geography of the Middle East; and studgying geology, fossils, and dinosaurs for science. We have art lessons and fictional reading to support our studies. Everyone will continue to work through their math text doing 1 lesson at a time. We are also incorporating preschool lessons.
Before we begin our 12 weeks of lessons the older girls and I are taking a little vacation. We are going to visit a museum in a nearby city to take a look at some of the things we will be learning about during this next period. This is partially a reward for all the hard work they did this summer gardening and putting food away for winter.
We are doing well with eating from our stored food. My oldest is baking daily to keep up our supply of baked items. Our monthly groceries are about $300 including cleaning supplies. This is helping on our budget plus I am hoping it will free up some funds so we can start remodeling our house. The entire thing needs updating and DH is planning on doing the work himself.
When DH brought the mail in the other day I thought the seed catalog was in it. I thought it was early but I got excited at the thought of planning the garden. It wasn't a seed catalog, so I'll have to wait until January. There is still a lot to do in the next couple of months regarding the holidays so I will be thankful for the time I have to spend on those activities.
Happy homesteading . . .

2008-Nov-15 - Cloth Diapers

My sister will be having a baby in March. Because she is working full time and going to school at night to support her family, I will have this baby at my house about 15 hours per day most days. Children are a blessing from the Lord, no matter what! I want to use cloth diapers. I used them with my children. My youngest is 20 years old. Things have changed alot since then. In those days, you could just go to Kmart and buy the diapers and rubber pants. I just got a new sewing machine. Nothing fancy just one of the lower end ones. I sewed a few things when my girls were small but found it very frustrating with no one to teach me. I am ready to sew again. I would like to make some cloth diapers. Is there any way that you could share what you know about cloth diapers, rubber pants etc. I would like to know all about them and how to sew them. Things like, what pattern did you use?, what kind of material worked best?. Are you using disposable liners, what about baby wipes? What is the best way to clean them? What type laundry soap do you use? I make mine and I wonder if this will be sufficient. :) I know I am full of questions. If you do not want to post this info maybe you could private message me or email emunagarden@gmail.com I enjoyed catching up on your blog. It is a joy to read. Thanks for your help.

Isn't if funny how we wrap up gardening for one year, and we turn around and are already planning for next?
