More Sewing, Some Cleaning, A Little Schooling

Well we did some more sewing today.  We made a romper for the baby to match everyone's Church clothes.  Now each of the girls has a prairie dress with a pinafore over it.  The 2 toddler boys have vests that match and the baby boy has a matching romper.  Mom and Dad do not match.  Dad thinks the matching is funny and weird.  I coordinate usually with kids.  I think it builds family identity.

We also cut out another Christmas gift.  I have a couple of those to sew up.  We will sew from now until spring gardening begins in earnest.  In that amount of time we will sew an additional 8 nightgowns, 4 sets of pajamas, 2 vests, 1 romper, 4 slips, 8 dresses and 20 jumpers.  My oh, my I'm tired just thinking about it.   That averages out to about 2 items per week.

We did a little more cleaning.  This week's assignment was bathrooms.  We would rather be doing something else, but we do like our home to be tidy and fairly clean.

I am working on re-doing our homeschooling program.  I am not enjoying it and the kids are only enduring it.  I want it to come alive more and be more broad.  I am customizing come lessons around the Bible.  We are going to work chronologically through the Bible learning history of the entire world as we go.  Our other lessons will be based upon the history we are learning.  For example, we will begin by learning geology and fossils as we study about creation.  When we get to Julius Caesar we will learn about the Shakespeare play by the same name.  I will build our field trips around the subjects we are learning.

While I have found the library has some useful books on the topics we are going to study, their secular viewpoint makes them extremely limited in usability.  I have ordered Mystery of History for our history text and a art history text based on the Bible that goes chronologically.  I will have to order some additional science texts this year, but am able to primarily use the ones I already had purchased.  This will be more costly and time intensive, but I am actually excited by what the kids are learning.

I looked at multiple programs but didn't find that any had exactly what I was look for.  While I want to integrate all my subjects, I found other programs simply used activity from other subjects to integrate with the history topic.  I want to use the history as a guide for studying more in depth about the other subjects so they see the interrelatedness.

I hope things are well on your homestead.  Thank you for the tag I received.  I am sorry I never find the time to do those, but I hope you do find that I share things about myself in this format.

It's so great all of the sewing you do. I do not get nearly as much completed as you. I think its sweet that y'all coordinate. My husband only does when its picture time.
Blessings for your week.
