To mother's of large families

Posted on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 09:15

- Post Comment I know I've said this before and I'm going to say it again.  It takes an extremely strong woman to care for a large household.   God has blessed you with an ability I do not have.   I had between 7 and 9 children in my home for 9 days this past week and I must say I am EXHASTED!!!!!  The cooking, dishes, and laundry alone was all I could keep up with.  Thank God my bathrooms got a super deep cleaning the day they got here because I didn't get to them like I usually do on Thursdays.  VBS every day from 8:30-12 kept us super busy and Eric and I had a couple ball games a piece between us, not to mention Parker's 6th birthday party( will post pics soon!).  We did make it to the beach one day and were able to relax.  My visitors headed back to PA on Friday morning and Friday evening my hubby's brother and wife rolled into town.  They will be staying with his parents however.  My hubby took two extra days off of work this week to spend with his brother so I'm sure we are looking forward to another busy week.  My kids have their own ideas of what they want ot do with their uncle.  They want to take him to the beach and show him how they catch crabs on the rocks, and they want to go to Six Flags New England.  We'll see how it pans out.  I'll have to speak to my sister in law about it......both our hubbies are not too good in planning anything.  They are more of the fly by the seat of your pants kind of people.  Lee Ann and I are planners.....it must be the teacher in us.  Well I must round up my kiddos and get them to church.  My daughter has a verse test to take today.  If she passes she earns money toward a Christian college.  Even though she is only 8!!!  I'm praying she passes cause every little bit helps!

I am with you on this one! I have a great respect for those mothers of many, but I don't think I could do it myself! LOL My best friend has 5 children, and sometimes she will come to visit with only a few of them, and they honestly drive me nuts. LOL They are so busy! But unlike most children who sit in front of the tv all the time, they can entertain themselves quite well! Often when they are here, she sends them outside to play so they don't drive me crazy. LOL They don't bother her, she is used to it. She will tell them, you better go outside and play before Aunt Amy has a nervous breakdown. LOL It is so funny.

We currently have a two year old and that is all. I would welcome more children into my home, and have dreamed of even having twin daughters if the Lord so chooses, but I guess I would have to rely on the strength of the Lord if he gave me more chilrdren. LOL

God's Blessings,
Amy Jo

Typically they don't all arrive at the same time...

I only have four children, so we certainly do not have a large family. I do know this that it is very different when the children are yours. They enter your family one at a time (generally). The children know or learn your family's system. You have time to readjust your family each time a child is added. It is just different than having a full sized family at your home for a visit.

On occasion I would watch the four children of a friend from church. That would make 8 children in my home for the day. I would be exhausted when they left. Mostly that was because I had to constantly tell them things that my children already knew about how to behave in our home or what would be next in the daily routine, etc.

Glad you enjoyed your time with your guests.
Jennie

About Me

I am a mother of three. I desire to grow closer with the Lord and raise children who love and honor Him. Knowing I am a work in progress, I have decided to start this blog to keep in touch with family and friend from a far and perhaps meet some new ones who can help me in this journey of life.
