Letting go of perfectionism...

I have a problem.  My problem is I always feel I am going to miss something.  I always need to know everything.  I am not nosy at all, but I do my reading.  Also to my dismay I am a pretty hyper person.  Now that I homeschool I find that I can not read enough about the right curriculum to use for my children.  I am half way through reading The "Well Trained Mind" and my mind is whirling.  Why on earth are there so many options for homeschoolers?  I am a recovering perfectionist as well which does not help the situation at all!  Mind you, I am still in the process!  I have not mastered this portion of my life yet, but hopefully with continued prayer and faith God will help me through!  I know somedays I need to stop stressing about what I may be doing wrong in terms of homeschooling and enjoy my children.  If my daughter asks me to paint her nails or french braid her hair I need to stop what I am doing and spend quality time with her.  If it means taking more time in the morning for the most important subject, Bible, I will.  What about you...what are all of your struggles?  This struggling mama needs some encouragement!

Hi, my name is Laura, and I am a perfectionist too!!
I too, am high strung. My volume knob goes to 11, and I am usually at 11.5 :-)
But; God wired me in a way that would Glorify Him.

Ok, *for me* perfectionism is a flaw. I was raised by a perfectionist.....and started to raise my kids the same way. One day it hit me: Laura, you are miserable this way, why do you want to saddle your kids with this baggage.
I have to watch myself, listen to my self, and check myself to make sure that I am not passing my neurosis down to my kids!! HA HA My son is very "organized" like me, almost to a flaw.......so I coach him a lot. My oldest, God has protected. She is so laid back, gentle in spirit, meek at heart. Thank you Jesus........then the baby..............wow. Again, I am a firm believer in generational curses....and I am also a firm Believer that Jesus can break them!!

As far as cirriculum? My kids were older when we started home schooling (4th, 6th and 7th grade). The Lord lead me to Christian Liberty Academy. The first year we did it just like CLA sent, with one or two modifications. The second year MAJOR modifications. By the 3rd year, the Lord said "I've gottcha.....you can do this." And we have hand selected what we wanted to do since.
I have a senior, junior, and freshman this fall.......
And God has been so faithful.

Braid hair, blow bubbles, dig for worms, take naps..........
As my oldest approaches 18 this July......I cannot believe how fast this time has gone. Sometimes the thought strangles me........
