Question about our Tiger kitty

Maine Coon Cat Photographic Print by Klein And Huber

We have a long haired kitty named Tiger.  We got Tiger when we saw an ad in our local paper saying that someone had found a cat.  I called the woman and asked if anyone had claimed him yet.  She said no, so we asked if we could have him.  She said that was fine, and she dropped him off at our house.  We have had him for a little over a year.  He is a wonderful cat!

As you all know if you have read my past posts that we are trying to be as frugal as possible.  A situation came up this morning with the cat that it seemed required veterinarian attention.  He acted like something was hurting him and he kept meowing.  I could not let him go on like that, we do love him and don't want to see him huring! Tiger is a long haired cat and since we have not had him for very long we are learning as we go to take care of him. We have learned that with long haired cats they don't clean themselves very well if the back end gets too long.  This is exactly what happened to Tiger and it was really bothering him.  What I thought was going to be a quick clean up of the needed area ended up to cost us $183.00!!!  They did some type of x-ray on him to check his stomach, kept him for 1/2 of the day, and did some type of fluids-subcutaneous treatment!!  What gets me is I called the vet a while back wanting just the area cleaned up for the cat and they told me they would not touch him until he had his rabies shot which was only a couple weeks over-due!  I planned on taking him tomorrow for his rabies shot at a clinic where it was much cheaper.  Then I planned on calling them to clip him up.  They actually overlooked the rabies shot today since we payed them 183.00

My question is this.  From now on how often should we take Tiger to be clipped?  They said monthly, what do you think?

Go to walmart and buy a cheap clipper that you would use on a boy or man ,maybe $25.00 and do it yourself. It all depends on how short you want his hair. If he wont let you clip his hair you will have to take him in. God Bless and good luck , mj

Kitty Cat fur cut....

We also have a long haired kitty too who wasn't able to clean herself. I found a dog groomer who groomed kitties and twice a year we had her fur cut really short. She was even able to cut the hair short down her legs and tail and left a little poof at the end of her tail like a lion! She was way happier this way and it was so much easier for her to try to groom herself. Her long fur tangled and got into knots. We paid $18 each time for a groom-so $36 a year-alot cheaper than your vet bill!!! Once you get his fur cut down the first time, see how long you can go before it starts getting too long-you may be able to go 8 months in between cuts. I hope this helps. Our cat it a Maine Coon cat-do you know if yours is too? The picture you posted is exactly how ours looks. Her name is Tyger-we thought she was a boy, so now she's Tyger Isabella!!!

Dear Anonymous,
Our cat we believe is at least 1/2 Maine Coon. He does look like the picture I posted. Is your Maine Coon very friendly as well?
