Faith (our 6 year old)

This is our special Faith

She is holding her hand over her mouth because she knew I would be posting her picture on my blog and she did not want everyone to see she has a bright red ring around her mouth from licking her lips!  Anyway, last night I said I was going to share with you a little about Faith.

Ever since Faith was about 1 1/2 years old Faith has been a challenge.  When she was younger she would have tantrums about something and not be able to stop screaming crying. I remember her waking up in the night crying when she was about that age and  I could not console her.  I knew then something was going on with her.  Faith also does not show too much emotion with things. We have had her tested by an autistic specialist.  The Dr. told us that she was not autistic or have aspergers.  He did tell us that she might have some educational delays and have an anxiety disorder that eventually she might have to be on medication.  Faith has proved to actually be quite smart.  She loves to read and in my opinion is above grade level.  Faith does have sensory issues.  She does not like loud sounds, and is very picky with what she wears.  She particularly does not like pockets, or jeans.  Most shirts are okay with her.  She used to like her coat up until recently and now she holds her hood toward the front and won't zip her coat.  Usually she will try to not wear a coat at all.

A couple of weeks ago we visited some friends from our church and had dinner with them.  My friend told me about a naturopathic doctor she took her daughter to because she exhibited some of the same symptoms that our Faith has.  I was all ears!  She told me this doctor told her to change her daughters diet and take some herbal supplements, and now her daughter was fine!  The next day I made an appointment to see that doctor!  Yesterday was Faith's appointment.  The first question he asked me was, "did she have immunizations"?  She did...and I wish I could go back and not have done them.  He told me according to some testing he did with Faith that it showed she was having a sensitivity to a lot of different ingredients.  Number one was wheat!  The rest were Maltose/Barley, Oats, & Gluten.  He told us to give her Papaya Mint Enzyme and B-12.  Tonight I went out and bought corn tortillas (in place of bread), gluten and wheat free noodles, and a special flour mix so she can have pancakes later on this week because we planned on having pancakes.  I don't think this diet change will be that bad.  We will just be sure to incorporate more fruits, vegetables and meat.   This morning she had scrambled eggs, for lunch she had mashed potatoes, and for dinner she had a corn tortilla with melted cheese on it with a yogurt.  She did sneak a few pretzels though!  Has anyone had similar experiences with their children.  What are some of your findings?  Any information about this would be such a blessing.  Have any of you gone to a naturopathic doctor?

I have not gone to this kind of doctor but have heard of many kids having problems that when changing diets, it cleared up. Thank goodness you found a special doctor and he was willing to help you out. I hope the new diet changes help your daughter!

God's Blessings,

Sounds like your daughter could have PDD-NOS a very mild form of Autism. My daughter is 11 and has been diagnosed with PDD-NOS, she has learning challenges and mild MR. Dietary changes did not really help my daughter, but I know some swear by it..Good Luck!
