Reading..

I have a confession, I love to read. My love for reading and writing began when I was very young. This year one of my goals is to read more of the Bible. My goal is not to kill myself trying to read the whole Bible, but slowly read through it, and meditate on it. I started reading through some of the Bible not too long ago, starting with John, and I got to 2 Corinthians, and lets just say I have not been reading lately! It was a perfect plan too, because I would read 1 or 2 chapters a night, and I am sure you know that reading only 2 chapters a night would not take me that long. It is a constant struggle for me to make sure that I read the Bible daily. I justify reading other books by telling myself that I at least read daily a book from a Christian view with a Christian author. Even justify it because the book I may read will have Bible verses in it. But I am convicted...it is NOT the Bible. Through His Word God cleanses and heals our souls and replaces the enemy’s lies with the Truth.
Psalm 119:105 tells us that God's Word is "a lamp to [our] feet and a light to [our] path."
God says He esteems the person "who trembles at My word" (Isaiah 66:2).
**I would love to know everyone's thoughts on this subject.

I love to read and writing is also a passion for me. I dont really know why, I dont feel I have great things to say, but I enjoy the beauty of words and just the powerful impact that can be made by the way something is said (written). I have become very frustrated with all the books out there, that while good, have the tendency to be used rather than the Bible. For our children and us, there is no better book that the Bible. They pick up more than we realize. I just read a portion and explain as I go. I get very excited about it when I read and explain. God has gifted me in being able to bring it to their level of understanding without watering it down. What they dont get, I just leave to Him. I believe their character is molded and shaped as they learn and grow in Him. Teaching character should be done but not the Bible should take preeminence. For myself and for their time in the Word, it is and seems to always have been a struggle to be consistent in that. But there is a reason for that. Satan doesnt want us in His word and it will be a constant battle. While knowing the source of our strength and all we need to function and be effective in our calling comes from our time with HIm, it still remains a battle. It is a battle that I will continually fight for. I try to read in the morning but if i cant then i have my time during nap or quiet hour (after lunch). I try to read at night before bed from the book i am currently in. i also put little devotion books i like in the bathrooms and when i can get little nuggets there. I think it is important to have a reading plan because where there is no vision the people perish. But I think the most important thing to remember is that we fellowship with Him while we read. When we try to follow a plan so closely we easily get caught up in reading words on a page in order to check off on our plan. God wants our heart, so I think it is best to read and beable to soak it in and learn and grow even if that takes 1,2,3, or 4 years rather than read quickly and miss what He has for you in order to finish in a year. Another words, not to be mastered by a plan but have a plan to follow the Master.
anyway- those are my quick thought. i hope that was what you were looking for.
sincerely- koen
(yes we just met- buying books from you)

there are a few typing errors in my post, but i definitely want to correct the one that says the 'not the bible should take preeminence' - i meant the bible should be primary and most important.
