Grocery Store Savings...

Many of you have asked how in the world we are able to feed 2 adults, and 6 children on 50.00 week.

#1  We try to cut out meat as much as possible and cook with beans instead.

#2  I use coupons at our local Price Chopper who doubles our coupons.

#3 We drink a lot of water.  If my kids could, they would drink 1 gallon of milk daily.  We can't do that seeing milk is 3.00 a gallon.  I will also purchase powdered milk, and use that in a pinch.

#4 Base your menu on what is on sale.  When you get the Sunday ads, make sure you go through it.

#5  Make a menu and stick to it.

#6 Don't overeat!  My husband and I are guilty of that!

#7 Only purchase organic if it is on sale.

#8 Cook from scratch, no processed foods!

#9 Stock up when things are on sale.  (after Thanksgiving I got 2 huge turkeys for 10.00)

#10 Get involved with your local food co-op (a lot of times joining a co-op can save you 10-15.00 a week.

#11 Find out when your grocery store will put soon to be expired food items on sale.  For example bananas, milk, bread.   Also if you notice something at the store that will be expiring soon, find out if they will give you a discount.  If I see bananas starting to brown, I ask for a discount.  Bananas make yummy banana bread.

#12 Sometimes if I accumulate a lot of ECB's from CVS, I buy milk there.  I did that recently and walked out with 4 gallons of milk paying nothing out of pocket.

#13 My only recommendation would be to start trying to lower your food bill gradually.  Start with trying to feed each person for 3.00  a meal, and then gradually try to lower that to $2.00 a meal and so forth.
