Be careful giving out personal information

02:52, Monday, July 14, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link

Well I guess it was inevitable.  Today right before leaving to take my daughter for an eye appointment (she will be getting contacts) I received an email that appeared to be from ebay.  It did not look familiar to me.  I clicked on the link and it brought me to a site that looked exactly like Ebay's login site.  I typed in my info thinking maybe I was just forgetting something and thats why I was confused.  When I typed in my information nothing happened.  Two seconds later I realized that this was not a legitimate email from ebay!  I freaked out!  Why does ebay not have a phone number to contact someone immediately?  I finally got it resolved, but my daughter missed her eye appointment today!  Who knows, maybe I was not meant to leave the house at that time.  Maybe something like this happening was more of a blessing instead of a curse?

I get these type of internet thievery emails quite a bit.  I usually know that that is what they are though.  I hate when things like this happen, they take up WAY too much of my precious time!

Same thing happened to me about a year or so ago Anne. The email looked EXACTLY like one from Ebay, and it asked to sign in and update my info, including paypal, etc. So I signed in, but my keen eye caught a typo!! Now Ebay would have caught a typo before sending this out to tons of people wouldn't they?? I emailed the company and they said it was a fake site, and told me to immediate change passwords on my Ebay, and Paypal accounts, as well as my email that I used on Ebay. I did so, and have never had a problem since, but I have learned a lesson just as you have. I don't give that infomation when it is sent over an email like that!!! And I am careful to check those kinds of emails for typos or any other signs that it could be fake.

Thanks for posting this. Maybe you have told someone who didn't know about this, and have saved them from some big problems!

God' s Blessings,
Amy Jo
