I watched this same version a few weeks ago after seeing it at the library. I was very enamored with this story too, and would like to watch it again. Love those classics!
I have this movie too and enjoyed it for the visual beauty of the settings. They did well with that, but I'm afraid that's where it ended with me. I am passionate about Jane Eyre (the book). I get so much out of it because of her moral courage in the face of great temptation and I felt this movie watered down so much of the really good scenes in the book. The childhood experiences with Helen, and they completely changed the storyline with the cousin St. John. I think if you're not familiar with Jane Eyre - the book, then this is an enjoyable movie, but if you love the book, then this movie will annoy you.
But that's just my opinion and I'm totally over-the-top when it comes to adaptation of Jane Eyre, do don't mind me! LOL

This is one of my favorite novels. I was at my MIL's house this morning sitting w/my hubby's mamaw while he and his dad went fishing. I was so excited to watch this, but lo and behold, my MIL was not a subscriber. I made a mental note to check tonight to see if it's coming on again soon.
Thank you for writing about it b/c I had already forgotten my plans to remember it!!! LOL
I will look for "Persuasion" now, too since you mentioned that title.
