Dickens Holiday

09:10 PM, Friday, November 28, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
Today my daughter's homeschool choir performed at an annual festival called "Dickens Holiday."  I recorded three videos on my phone.  They aren't real clear, but if you turn up the volume, you can enjoy their singing.
By the way, my daughter is the one all the way on the left. The stage wasn't big enough for everyone to fit, so several singers on each side of the stage had to stand on the floor :-)

(Please don't click on any of the "suggested" videos that follow from YouTube.  I did not post them, and there is no telling what may show up!)

Herpetology

The other day, JR went out the the shed, and came back saying he thought there was a snake out there.  I went to look, and found a VERY fresh snake shedding, it was still moist.  We are pretty sure it is from a rat snake.

We thought it was really neat how well the head came out!

We added it to our collection of "finds" in the classroom :-)

Science experiment: air pressure, gliders

06:05 PM, Thursday, November 6, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
JR had an experiment for science the other day, learning about air pressure and its effect on wings.  For this experiment, he needed to make two gliders.......

Then he had to throw them.  Since it was wet outside, we used the hall way.

And then he had to measure.....

(Yes, my hallway is lined with feed bins.....horse feed, goat feed, chicken, rabbit, etc.)

He threw the gliders 10 times each, and the glider with the long narrow wings consistently flew further than the glider with the short wide wings.

Can you identify the stamen, pistol, ovule, stigma, or sepals?

Pickles & Science

01:00 PM, Tuesday, July 29, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 1 comments .. Link
The other day, we finally met some of our neighbors, and in the nicest way!  They came down and gave us a bag full of cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers from their over-abundant garden.  This on the same day that I commented on a friend's post about a similar event.

So my hubby asked me to make some dill pickles.  I had a packet of dill pickling spices by Ball, and decided to go ahead and make some refrigerator pickles, since they will be eaten right away and can be made without heating up the house.

My youngest fancies himself a spy and like to take photos of people when they don't know he is there.....me working at the kitchen sink

Then yesterday, JM had a science experiment to do....so we took some photos of it....

Documenting her results in her notebook...
