Mama Hen

Hit by Hannah

Well, tropical storm Hannah came through early this morning.  We didn't expect much trouble, but went ahead and "wind-proofed" the yard anyways.  We got lots of rain, part of our driveway washed out, but hubby and the boys fixed it in a few minutes with shovels.  Other than that, we were in pretty good shape.  Just very wet.

The back of our property is bordered by what is a very slow-moving creek.  Just two days ago, my youngest was back there fishing, and you can kind of see the creek behind him.  It is normally only about 15 - 20 feet across.

Well, this morning the boys went over there with their poles to see if they could fish, and it sounded like there was a highway back there with all the noise.

The 15-20 foot, slow-moving creek was now 150-200 feet wide.  This is the road...

This is from the bridge, that is normally 6-8 feet above the water.

On the other side of the bridge....

The tree that is leaning above, is where the boys usually stand to fish.

The fishing spot....

Sadly, this creek is heading in the general direction of a neighborhood that is now severely flooded.  The water is still rising over there and the water is now covering the highway.  This is a fairly new neighborhood, that only has one road in and out.  There is water 4-6 feet deep covering their only way of leaving, as well as turning many homes into islands.  I didn't take a photo of it, simply out of respect for those poor families.

You know, I mutter about the hill we live on, as I mow it, but seeing all of this, I have never been quite so thankful for it.

Glad to hear your home didnt get hit but feel sorry for your neighbors. Here in NW Florida all we had was some rain. We didn't have any problems with Fay like the east coast. Now we have to watch out and sew about this new hurricane, Ike.
