Tv turnoffs
Television viewing:
- is related to poor school performance
- can incite violent behavioris related to weight gane
- can contribute to poor sleeping habbits
- increases attention problems
- suppresses critical thinking skills
- produces immunity to violence and horror
- promotes materialism
- separates action from accountability and consequences
- encourages innapropriate behavior and language
Can you list 10 things you could do instead of plopping you or your children infront of the "babysitter"?
- puzzles
- sing and dance
- go outside
- Read those things called books, with all the pages with words on them
- let the children be involved in the home cleaning and cooking
- play a board or card game
- go visit a friend (this will get them away from the tv too)
- call a friend
- color or paint
- make cards or pictures for a sick or hurting person in your church
That is just the first 10 that popped into my mind. I'm sure you could come up with lots more :)

We don't have television coming into the house, but we do have movies to watch, and I learned real quick that even that exposure has a profound impact on my 4yr son. So he gets half hour a day - he can pick, but that is all. that seems to be all he can handle before he gets cranky, mean and impatient.
Good Ideas....
You've posted great ideas of fun things to do anytime! While I agree that TV watching should be carefully monitored and most of society overindulges, I also know that we've also learned tons o' neat things from the shows we as a family enjoy together. Like so many things, too much TV has many negative results while in reasonable doses/thoughtful choices there are good points as well!
I enjoyed your blog!!

I should say...
that we do have a tv. My MIL gave us one for Christmas. But we seriously limit the time and content. My husband and I watch CSI on Sunday nights at 11pm. And I watch the occassional ER, but it's getting even worse, so this was my last season watching the shows I got to sit and watch. Otherwise, it's 1 PBS show per day or a movie like Veggie Tales :) We've started a thing now though for the summer. No tv at all. Except for the weather on the news.

11. knit
12. crochet
13. sew
I was surprised by how much my nine-year-old enjoys these activities. I haven't let her sew on the sewing machine, but she does pretty well with a needle and thread. My seven-year-old also likes to knit.
