Our New Life

It's been a couple of weeks, lots of developements

Posted in Homestead Journal

Well last I wrote we had just put in two of our garden beds. They are doing well. We had some wacky cold weather but our plants appear to have made it and our seeds are sprouting. Right now we have broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts and strawberries (need to get some more) plants and they look wonderful. Our spincach, lettuce, peas, snow peas and beet seeds are sprouting. Still waiting for the carrots to make their appearance. Our red onions are sprouting as well. We have started our third garden bed and will complete that this week. Next week we will teracce off a section of the back yard.

I will be posting pictures of some of this on our website. We have sold Mocha bunny, she apparently had kindered and for whatever reason destroyed a rather large nest. However, this coming Tuesday she will be replaced. We also sold Rooster Rooster, we want just laying hens for now and do not want to worry about any fertilized eggs.

This week we will bring over the pieces we have collected to build the chicken yard (rabbits are staying where they are until the cage is completed). We are also going to make a small hen house for our girls to go into at night.

I have worked up and started advertising our CSA and have had some interest. Mostly our neighbors but it all starts somewhere. My stevia seeds have arrived and many of the seeds we started in the house are showing signs life.

Well off to whip up something for dinner to feed this hardworking crew.
