The Garden is in!!!

Posted in Homestead Journal

We are so excited. We finally got our cold weather veggies in. It wasn't easy turning the beautiful Carolina Clay we have into something workable but we managed it. There are two small beds. However, we have been able to plant everything we wanted and then some.

  • Early spinach and lettuce
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Cabbage
  • Peas and Snow Peas
  • Beets
  • Carrots

I can't remember what all else we planted but we got a lot into our beds. We even got our herb bed laid out and ready to go. This week is supposed to be rainy so it will be a good time to get plants started for the next go round. I think we might put one more bed in and then we will use crop rotation for the rest of the time. Each time we change the beds over we will add more compost to make the soil even richer. Well, right now I might just keep piling it on and around the plants at least.

I am looking forward to a bountiful harvest this year and hopefully a few extra dollars in my pocket. Three children while very worth it are very expensive.
