Gotta love Carolina Clay. It's nutrient rich, but heavy and well you cannot get it out of your clothes. I will be adding aged horse manure to it once the first turn is done. I am planning for at least 3 beds in the front yard. I have already eyed several places to put in dwarf fruit trees.
I need to get at least one bed done so I can put in cold weather plants like cabbage, broccoli, bok choi etc.. I will be starting pepper plants and several others this week in little cups that will line the large window sills of my home.
Tuesday night I will be going with my best friend to receive GAP and WIC training for the up coming farmer's market season. We will have a stand set up in Elkin, NC. We will be selling some of our craft items there as well.
The house is fairly well organized at this point. Next house part to work on is the basement. Needs a serious cleaning and re-organizing. I borrowed a hard rake and shovel from my dad and will be going to the dollar store to purchase some hand gardening tools as well and hopefully a hoe. Need to purchase a small gas can so that we can get the small tiller up and running.
After the garden beds are set up and the rabbit cage comes home along with the chicken coop, the rest of the yard will also get a good cleaning. I am still going to repair the shed, it will make a lovely mini barn when I am done with. I saw some small guage fence in daddy's garage that I will probably swipe as well, to use to fence off the area around the shed.
Well off to to finish up the day... |
