Well, I had to travel up the mountain (go from Mount Airy to Virginia) today so I missed most of the sale at the stockyard. However, my best friend bought 10 laying hens. We are going to split them between us. So I will have my pair of Dominiques and 5 laying hens. These ladies are molting at the moment, but as soon as I can get my coop set up they are coming home and will be ready to lay shortly.
I also found out that a pair of buff colored guinea hens went for $19 each. Not bad, so an investment in an assorted straight run from Murray's catalog will not be such a bad idea. Get day old keets and when they start to get their regular feathers in and get some size to them, I can definitely get a return on my investment.
The girls are getting excited, Jay will be home this weekend and it looks like he will be staying on the East Coast and home on a more regular basis.
It's almost planting time so I am going to need to get started on my garden beds this coming week. Well its been a long two days. I am off to bed.
