The Simple Woman's Daybook... November 30th, 2008

FOR TODAY: Sunday, Nov. 30th
Outside My Window... The rain is cold and falling gently.  The weather man says there is a chance it will turn to snow by morning.
I am thinking... of my schedule for tomorrow and the week... busy as ever.
I am thankful for... Everything! My husband, all our children, our home, our jobs and our life ~ our peaceful, quiet and comfortable country life.
From the kitchen... Breakfast in the morning will be Cinnamon Rolls, always a hit!
I am wearing... A black and multi colored peasant shirt with black slacks and flats.
I am creating... Curtains and accessories for my kitchen and dining room as well as accent pieces too.  Then another quiltie or so and some living room curtains, once I find the right fabric.
I am going... to try to get my weekly housework done early enough this week so that we can put up our tree and christmas decorations before the crazy weekend and company.
I am reading... a book about menopause right now and also I just finished reading 'The Shack' - a super read that I highly recommend!  I am planning to buy my own copy to read again and mark for personal use!  It was that good.
I am hoping... get a little more christmas shopping under my belt very soon.
I am hearing... the television in the background and nothing else.  The kids are in bed and asleep... yeah! Momma time.
Around the house... I am folding a load of towels then it's off to bed for the night.  Everything (except my sewing mess) is picked up through the house for the evening.  Lots to do this week though...
One of my favorite things... is crochetting and sewing during the evenings while it is winter.  I also love reading and sipping my tea or cappaccino, chatting with my hubby and kids and watching my favorite show.  Winter to me = (equals) = Relaxing!
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Work on laundry and get it caught back up, make more Laundry Soap and Cleaning Supplies, do Wednesday 'Family Cleanup', Carpool for wrestling Monday - Friday, decorate for Christmas, attend Saturday wrestling matches for both boys, Go to the grocery store on Friday, and attend Church and have dinner/dessert ready for Company on Sunday afternoon.

What a glorious fall day...

I am so enjoying this gorgeous fall day.  I have the windows open airying out the house, a pot of homemade beef and noodle soup on the stove and laundry drying on the line.  I don't like to do laundry on Sundays however when there is extra or we get behind I have to to make sure that everything is ready to begin the new school and work weeks therefore I have to bend a few of my own rules.

The boys all had their own agenda's this weekend which left my hubby and I alone.  He works weekends however we have been able to spend lots of time together and go on a date and even went grocery shopping together and to the thrift store's shopping together.  It was so nice.  Everyone will be back home this evening and so will the chaos... no complaining though, I enjoy the boys lives immensely, most days... hahahaha

I've still have peppers, tomatoes, and a few other things coming in from the garden.  I need to go out again today and pick everything else that's ready and freeze or can it early this week.  My freezers are pretty full already but I just hate to waste anything.

I am heading to the village market in a little while to buy some local/organic eggs, honey, potatoes and etc.  I didn't have a chance to pick these items up yesterday before the market closed and now I must do it today... another thing that  I hate to do on Sundays that I must.  Forgive me, Lord.

Well, I have lots of little tasks that I must do today.  Enjoy this incredible day!  Blessings, Lena

And The Winds Blew...

My how the winds blew in Ohio on Sunday!  The winds were an estimated 75-100 miles per hour.  Our village is a very small farming community and if you are familiar with west central Ohio you know that we are actually considered a 'plains' area, meaning it is flat as can be.  We lost power somewhere around 4:30 on Sunday and as of this morning thousands are still without.  Our power was finally restored last night, and although it flickered and such, when I awoke this morning at 4:45 a.m. it was on without waiver.  Thank you, Lord!  I pray that our surrounding farming neighbors' power is restored quickly as well.  I also pray for the safety of the electrical workers who are working non-stop and pouring in from other states to help us.

The loss of the television, computer and etc. were of little importance to me. The weather has been perfectly balmy with good breezes and cool evenings.  Simply perfect weather.  Even the loss of the washer and dryer (I prefer line drying as much as possible anyway), didn't worry me, just the refrigerator and freezer as I had just went to the grocery on Saturday and both were well stocked.  I could not have afforded to replace everything.  Again... Thank you, Lord!

The boys and I got Daddy off to work in the evenings and then relaxed on the porch and talked or chatted with neighbors and helped some with minor damage or cleanup.  Everyone seemed to be grilling out and checking in with each other.  Mind you, our village is always this way really... we do for each other, help each other, feed each other and so on already (which is one reason I am so thankful that we live where we do, it's like taking a small step back in time) but everyone seemed so relaxed and unhurried.  I am so thankful for where we live and are raising our boys... Thank you, Lord.

I love scouring the Bible for God's promises and reminders, so I thought I share the following verse:  Matthew 7:25 NIV  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Blessings,  MaLena

P.s.  Please keep our neighbors to the south who were victims of Gustav and Ike in our prayers.  Their loss and devastation is overwhelming.

The Simple Woman's Daybook...

FOR TODAY September 9th, 2008...
Outside My Window... The rain is gently falling.  The repetitive sound is making me sleepy.  I love rainy days.  I think they are cozy, especially if I am home.  It's a great time to catchup on sewing/mending projects, crocheting or sitting down and reading a great book.  A hot cup of tea and an afghan do the trick.... mmmmmm, I can smell the orange spiced tea already!
I am thinking... of my schedule for the day and what I hope to accomplish.  Better get my running shoes out!
I am thankful for... Everything! My husband, all our children, our home, our jobs and our life ~ our peaceful, quiet and comfortable country life.
From the kitchen... I cheated this morning!  I normally get up at 4:45 a.m. so that I am completely ready for the day and then I fix the boys a good hot breakfast before they leave for school.  This morning I was so tired, I slept in a few minutes (5:15) and ended up giving them the 'emergency breakfast food' - frozen waffles...  They were so excited!  hahahaha...
I am wearing... A black and multi colored peasant shirt with black slacks and flats.
I am creating... 'Quilties' at the present.  I am so close to having the blue flannel plaid one completed for my son, I can't wait to finish.  My husband has his request in and I do have most of it cut out it's just a matter of finding the time to lay it out and begin piecing it together.  It's a california king size... wheh!  Perhaps this weekend I can 'knock it out'.  I also am running low on my dishcloths - I need to whip up another dozen of those... busy, busy , busy!
I am going... to force myself to make a hair appointment.  I haven't even had it cut (other than my own fumblings) since January.  I really need a good trim/cut to even out my mistakes and a perm.
I am reading... and researching the Bible at present both hardcopy and online.  Some friends,  during the course of a general conversation, quoted a couple of scriptures as basis for a particular belief of theirs, that I have not heard used in that context before.  Although it does not change how I feel and believe, my curiosity is piqued.  I am such a bookworm at times.
I am hoping... these cooler evening and morning  temperatures continue.  I love opening my windows and airy out the house and feeling the breeze while I sleep.  What a fantastic start to the day.
I am hearing... the ticking of a clock, faint music from the sanctuary (I work at a church), and people chatting in the distance.
Around the house... today I plan to do a couple of loads of laundry this evening, pick some peppers, beans, and etc. from the garden and chop and freeze them (if the rain stops).  The garden is mostly winding down for now and I am welcoming the break, although I would like to have canned a little more for the winter months, however we were blessed with such a bountiful harvest which allowed us plenty to share with family, friends and neighbors, who do not or are not able to garden.  {Thank you Lord, again, for another bountiful harvest!}
One of my favorite things... is sitting on my front porch with a glass of iced tea, watching the cows across the road, listening to the kids playing, and chatting with my best friend, my husband, about nothing in particular.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Work on laundry and get it caught back up (washing all of the blankets and etc. to put away for the season from the camper), fix sewing machine, make more Laundry Soap and Cleaning Supplies, do Wednesday 'Family Cleanup', attend Football games Thursday and Friday evening, and attend my husbands family reunion on Sunday.

I learned Something New Today...

I learned something new today!

I know that if we listen with open ears and an open heart we can learn something new everyday, however the words of a fellow mother of three, resounded through my head (and my heart) today.  I pondered her words for sometime this morning.  This afternoon on my commute to a football field her words found their way into my heart again.  Thank God for sisters in Christ, who without even realizing it, teach us and uplift us.  Her comment or words of wisdom were an answer to the very thing I have been praying (and complaining) about for sometime:  My reminder that God always hears and answers my prayers - and that sometimes the answer is simply 'No'.

***************************************************************************************************************

I pulled out my 'fall' decorations yesterday.  It was so enjoyable to put my silly little 'colorform' leaves and acorns and the like on my windows, to put my strands of leaves and the like across the porch and to enjoy the cool evening breeze that I allowed into my bedroom as I settled down for the evening.  I am anxious to cut some cornstalks next weekend and make a couple of foddershocks for the front yard.  My husband is gonna love that... something else to mow and weed eat around... hahaha

I love fall!

Football is well underway and I look forward to the games when I don't have to peel myself from the bleachers to root for the team.  Go Panthers!!!!
