Yesterday...Remember When (from GypsyFarmGirl)

Posted By Kim Wolf<>< in On Our Family Homestead

OK gang...just remember...I'm an oldie goldie compared to some of you!    I was a kid in the 60's and a teen in the 70's (class of '77!)...Sooo, this may even be a history lesson to some of you!  HAHAHAHA!!  Have fun!...

What were your 3 favorite things to watch on TV when you were a kid?

1) Beany & Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent, 2) Beverly Hillbillies, 3) Andy Griffith Show.

What 3 commercials do you remember most from when you were a kid?

1) Don't squeeze the Charmin/Mr. Whipple, 2) Frigidaire [sp?] commericals w/ladies dressed up, dancing around their appliances,  3) Marlboro Man cigarette commercials.

What 3 toys were popluar when you were a kid?

1) Barbies, 2) G. I. Joe, 3) Baby First Step.

What 3 things did not exist when you were a kid?

1) Telephones w/o a cord, 2) VCR/DVD players, 3) CDs. (I still miss the huge posters that we used to get w/our 33 rpm albums!)

What 3 fads did you fall for when you were a kid?

1) Earth Shoes (did you know they're back!!!  Love 'em!), 2) white lipstick, 3) huge bell-bottom jeans.

What 3 songs do you remember most from when you were a kid?

1) ANYTHING by the Beatles!, 2) "Easy Come, Easy Go" by Bobby Sherman (oh, be still my heart!), 3) "Puppy Love" by Donny Osmond.

What were your 3 favorite movies when you were a kid?

1) "Mary Poppins" (the FIRST TIME it was out!), 2) "101 Dalmations" (the FIRST TIME it was out!), 3) "The Ghost & Mr. Chicken" (the FIRST TIME it was out!).

What are your 3 most embarrassing moments from when you were a kid?

1) Throwing up on the school bus, 2) when a hoody-type girl who - for some unknown reason - made it her life's goal to make my life miserable tried to get me to fight her.  Of course, since I wouldn't, everyone thought I was a chicken...yep...public school is great! What was your question about socialization?  3) falling off the top of the monkey bars...back then we HAD to wear dresses in grade school.

What 3 things do you wish you could get back from when you were a kid?

1) My friend Debbie who moved, they were an Air Force family, 2) my cat, Boots, 3) my grandparents.

~~ If you do this, let me know!!

Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><

there is something in my room....a bat maybe??

Posted By Panshrmu

did that get your attention? ok, I know there is a gecko or two that have moved into our room. That I CAN handle (I think) as they eat mosquitoes. More than once, they have run up the wall from behind our dresser to behind the a/c.....I have on more than one occassion caught them running on my nightstand (that was a little too close for comfort though)............BUT yesterday evening, I was laying in our bed nursing Anna and something around our mirror (it is like a desk that you put your make up on at....the English word has slipped my mind!).......I laid there and stared at it........it wasn't the right spot to be piece on the window to pull back the curtains.....and it was partially sticking out from the mirror, behind it......so I just kinda WATCHED it.......ever done that to something??!!! well.....THEN IT DISAPPEARED!!!! oh my, my heart was racing and I decided to continue our nursing session DOWNSTAIRS.............I called my beloved (who just kinda laughs at me when he hears me talk about flying things and then he can't find them later!!)...and he's like....I check it out when I get home. So, Anna and I stand outside for a few minutes, and I am sure it flew out cause something from our 2nd story level, and our bedroom window area flew across the street.

Well, they all get home and of course it is no where to be found. Doesn't that just make you feel good!!!

The boys and daddy are redoing their desks. Someone had given us old school desks last year and the other day they saw something on Art Attack about painting animals...........so, daddy said they could paint it. He bought all the supplies and showed them how to sand it down. Ds1 sanded his, but I think dh helped ds2 and ds3. One is painted white for a zebra, one yellow for a cheetah and ds3 painted his red.....for what I am not sure, but he insisted on red..........they are busy and having fun and dh is out there with them. At least our classroom will be bright!!!

I have decided to do some Health and Speed drills with ds1 to slowly prepare him for school work to begin. I like RS health already......they have to read verses from the Bible and all. The first lesson talks about creation, bodies and sin.............very simple and to the point. We are only doing 20min of that MWF and a speed drill. He picks his time to beat. He tried to tell me 30min.....yeah, whatever bud.......don't think so....3min maybe.............but 30min is well...............ya know............ hopefully I will get the rest of the books tonight or tomorrow.

Oh, we are getting "supplies"......... a mission team is bringing down Honey Nut Cheerios and some koolaid or lemonade mix for us!!!YEAH!!! and a friend found Ranch dressing at our one and only large store..........it was when I had the baby.......and it was American week at the store due to  July 4th!!!!LOL!!!! I am afraid to open it and use and then it be all gone...........:-)

ok.............well.............my rambling is done..................have a great one

Playing a joke on dad

Posted By m j

The girls are playing a joke on dad, the poor guy.  They just left to go to the fresh food market to go see about getting a catfish or a carp to put into our natural swimming pool.   Last night dad said he wants to go fishing , so our smart butt daughters are make sure he can go fishing.

They plan on giving him a fishing pole when he gets home and tell him to go fishing , then they will take him to the back yard and show him the pool.

The only thing is the fish is going to be a pet, No Dinner!!!

I will let you know if they do it and how it goes if they do.  They can only do it if the fish will live in our natural pool.

God Bless all , mj

Arthritis

Posted By Jill

foods to eat and foods not to eat
this is from: www.pioneerthinking.com

I joined the community center for a month. Today I walked 3/4 mile with our dog, then mowed the back lawn, then went to community center for a deep water exercise class. I thought it was 1/2 hour but it was 1 hour. I feel much better than usual at this time of day. I may have RA in my thumbs - I read it shows up on both sides. Here are some old time remedies I found that I could try.

Old Folk-Home Remedies To Relieve Arthritis And Rheumatism

Arthritis, one of the oldest disease known to mankind, is the inflammation of one or more joints. It occurs in all races at all times. Decline in joint function generally begins at age 30. No one really knows the exact cause of this painful and disabling disease. However, there are two theories:

1. Infection
2. Body's own defenses go out of line and attack its own tissues

Also experts believe that emotional stress plays a very important role in the cause of arthritis.

Since so many people in this country (over 150,000 a year) are afflicted with this excruciating, deforming disease, many HOME REMEDIES have been tested and used with some degree of effectiveness. Listed below are OLD-HOME-FOLK REMEDIES that have been tried by various people for treating arthritis in general and rheumatism.

- Mrs. G. had arthritis for years until she found relief taking alfalfa tea twice a day.

- Mrs. O. got relief by taking therapeutic doses of vitamins.

- Mrs. B. found relief by taking a tablespoon of fruit pectin in a small glass of cranberry juice every morning.

- Another lady found relief by gently exercising the afflicted joints in tub full of hot water.

- After learning self-control and how to avoid emotional upsets, Mrs. L. found that her pain had greatly lessened.

- Mrs. J.G. was greatly relieved when she eliminated sugar, white flour, macaroni, pie, cake, and sweet drinks from her diet.

- Mrs. G. W. recommends dissolving 4 teaspoons of blackstrap molasses in one quart of cranberry juice and drinking one glass everyday.

- Another says rub the aching joints with hot vinegar before going to bed.

- Two teaspoons apple cider vinegar and 2 teaspoons of honey dissolved in a small glass of warm water taken once or twice a day brings relief.

Thank you for all your prayers

Posted By Rashel

Thank you so much to each of you that has been praying for my family and me.  You and your prayers are truly appreciated. Things are much calmer around here now.  Although I am going to miss my grandmother, she was to the point that we all knew it was better for her to pass on than to stay in this life.  It was a very long week last week and the days seemed to run together so I am really glad it is over.  Things will get back to a little bit of normalcy around here.  As I said before, I am in the drama for our VBS this year and since we are getting close, we are having several practices a week which takes up alot of time.   It will only be for a couple more weeks though and then it will be over.  I am not in charge of any of the VBS areas, just helping and participating.  The drama is going to be wonderful, very thought provoking yet also very humorous at times.  We are all having a great time practicing.

Well, I have much to do around here today:

laundry
mow and weedeat
sweep
dishes
sew costumes
rehearse my lines
usual chores

so, I better get going and get busy.

Blessings to you all,

Rashel

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle......

Posted By Kelley

"The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Is The Hand That Rules The World"

 by William Ross Wallace,

Blessings on the hand of women!
Angels guard its strength and grace,
In the palace, cottage, hovel,
Oh, no matter where the place;

Would that never storms assailed it,
Rainbows ever gently curled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Infancy's the tender fountain,
Power may with beauty flow,
Mother's first to guide the streamlets,
From them souls unresting grow--

Grow on for the good or evil,
Sunshine streamed or evil hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Woman, how divine your mission
Here upon our natal sod!
Keep, oh, keep the young heart open
Always to the breath of God!

All true trophies of the ages
Are from mother-love impearled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Blessings on the hand of women!
Fathers, sons, and daughters cry,
And the sacred song is mingled
With the worship in the sky--

Mingles where no tempest darkens,
Rainbows evermore are hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

The Simple Woman's Daybook.....

Posted By Trixi

I love participating in Peggy's The Simple Woman's Daybook, but just never have time.  Although, today I just made the time.  Here goes:

Outside my Window...I here the chirping of birds and it is going to be a scorcher of a day.  They said the high was going to be 98 with a high humidity.  Oh, my!

I am thinking...of all that I need to get done.  I have cleaning and laundry, as we pretty much do nothing but spend time with Ronnie on the weekends.

I am thankful for...my children.  I am thinking on the new school year and I am so thankful that I can spend my days with them.

From the kitchen... Ronnie smoked two chickens for me this weekend and I will be putting them to good use today.  I think I will make
Poppyseed chicken and Crockpot chicken enchiladas.

I am creating...we have so many projects going on but the biggest thing I am working on is our plan for next year's school year.

I am going...nowhere today or tomorrow.  We will be home, praise the Lord.  Wednesday we have dentist appointments and hopefully a library trip.

I am wearing...right now I am still in a T-shirt and pajama pants.  The kids are still sleeping.

I am reading...I have started my chronological reading plan over and am reading in Genesis.  I just ordered the
Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery and Storey's Guide to Raising Pigs.  So I will be devouring those pretty soon.

I am hoping...for a week that is full of great memories with my kids before the hustle and bustle of starting school starts.

I am hearing...I am listening to a little news before the kids get up and it all gets turned off!!

Around the house...are piles of school books that I need to sell on ebay.

One of my favorite things...the simple life that we have found and are now cherishing.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...not to get too busy!!!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

This is a great picture of the sun setting I took a couple of weeks ago in our back yard.  I wish those electric lines were not in it but you still get the jest of the beauty.

After you are finished here go over and check out the other daybooks.

Have a great day,

Trixi
