I finished the Ohio Star tonight. I think I went wrong somewhere, because one of the squares isn't quite matching up perfectly. I unpicked it twice and I still can't get it right. I'm hoping that once I come to sew it all up that it will be ok, otherwise I'll have to try again. The photo is not the greatest as the batteries in the camera are running low, and it's 10pm at night here and one of the light bulbs has blown!
I think your Ohio Star square is beautiful! I know you are having fun doing this. I loved making my first and only sampler quilt-that I am still quilting on. I must say I enjoy piecing much more than I enjoy the quilting part. I am enjoying your blog!
Sincerely,
Sharon
I think the star looks wonderful. My squares don't always line up either. I wanted to answer your question about butting the seams. I will try to post what I mean with pictures later also. But what it is is to make sure the two seams that are being sewn together are facing in opposite directions and make the right sides that are togehter seams touch each other. If that makes any sense.?. I'll post a picture of it on my blog. I hope I can explain it better with pics. I think your block looks great though!

in many cultures, artisans purposely make a "flaw" in their work, since only God is perfect and only He can make perfect things. so ***IF*** anyone notices the flaw in your finished quilt, share that story....
I agree with other lady re being perfect - I think the Amish always make a mistake on purpose as God is only perfect.
I went to a quilt show & was amazed at how many quilts points didn;t meet up - It gave me such a huge boost in confidence
If mine don't match up I make it match up by make the seam cheat ie on the reverse you will see how one half of the fabric might not be a 1/4 inch seam.
I also have trouble butting - All my seams I open flat & pin through the middle to match each side/point. This I believe is not how you are meant to quilt but its the only way I can get my points work for me. One experienced quilter told me that it was fine to do it - one of many who have told me its not - but well it works for me.
That's neat to learn from the previous comments that the artisan does not make it perfect on purpose. I live near Amish country here in PA. I will look more closely now at their work.
Very nice work!

Welcome to my blog. I'm glad you dropped in. I'm a wife and mum to 3 children. We are blessed to live in the beautiful South Sea islands of New Zealand, and I love to write about our life and the things we do on our homestead of 10 acres, our adventures with animals and homeschooling, and the little things that touch my life and those around me. I hope you'll enjoy visiting.
