Little Bitty Tuesday

Posted in Just another day on the homestead

Today is a cold one.  I've been putting off going out & feeding the animals for a bit but will have to go do that after breakfast.  Sheets are in the washer & another load awaits.  I will go ahead & use my dryer because it helps to heat up the house a bit.  I still need to make some sourdough rolls & zucchini muffins.  (I'm going to try to use honey in place of the sugar in them.  If they turn out I'll post the recipe.)

I've been re-evaluating our homeschool lessons.  I'm already trying to decide what to get for next year.  I'm also thinking of not going by the public school calendar this year.  I've pretty much gone by it just because with nieces & nephews around we usually end up babysitting & such during their breaks.  However, I'm thinking of changing that up a little.  --It's so hot here during the summer months that I think there is no reason to not start school a bit earlier & then they can still spend the day swimming & playing.  We seem to not do much school during Nov & Dec. so we could possible take the whole month of Dec. off!  Wouldn't that be cool.

I'm also thinking about books.  I have so many, but I think I'm going to sell alot this year.  The year I started homeschooling it was like I turned into a book addict! LOL!

I am considering the following.  If anyone has used the following books, I'd appreciate any opinions on them:

~Mystery of History (also did you get the cd & was it helpful or not worth the money)

~Beautiful Feet Early American History

~Writing strands

~Rod & Staff science

I know for sure we're doing:

~Pathway readers & workbooks

~Easy grammar

~Rod & staff for math & spelling (daughter)

~Practical Arithmetic (son)

~Charlotte Mason scripture memory

Thanks for any input.  Deciding can be a difficult thing to do.

I haven't shared our menu in a while so here goes:

Mon- Taco salads w/homemade tortillia chips

Tues- Chicken biscuit pot pie, salad

Wed- Steak, baked potato, green beans, rolls

Thurs- King ranch chicken casserole, cole slaw

Friday- Round steak, mashed potatoes, corn

Saturday- Roast, carrots, turnips & cabbage, bread or rolls
