Building the ark

Posted in Laughing
MJ wanted to build a parade float this morning.  Her materials: the stack of empty laundry baskets in the dining room.  She showed me her inspiration in her Rhyme Bible Storybook- Noah's Ark (pronounce "Oik" by herself).  I gave my blessing and she said, "Ok the,  Step one:  where's my unicorn?"

Do you think that was Noah's first question as well?

If...

Posted in Laughing
I was informed today, by my 3.5 year old daughter, that, "If I was Darth Sidious and there was Slytheens around, I would zap them with my lightning, if I had some!"

Except it sounded more like this:

"If I was Darf Sideeiss and there was Swuh-beans awound, I would zap 'em wiff my wightning, if I had some!"

So there you have it.  More excellent advice from my children.  Darth Sidious, if you're reading, that's how you deal with Slytheens, if you somehow end up in the same galaxy and timeline as the Doctor.

Now you know.

Lucky girl

To understand this post you really have to have heard the way my MJ talks.  We live in Alabama (really hiding that one well with my sneaky screen name) and she talks like she's from Massachusetts.  She also loves Spongebob (the show, not the mountains of merchandise)- it's genetic; the whole family got that gene.  So her favorite expression of disappointment is, "Oh, toi-teh sauce!"  That "sauce" is pronounced just like my Cousin Trip says it when he talks like his Boston cousins.  Sort of like "soo-ess" but not like that.

Anyhoo- to my point.  Last week we went to Walmart and Daddy took the children to the game room while I paid for the groceries.  He gladly let's them play all the free video games they want while I take my mini-vacation at the self-check-out.  When I got there MJ asked me if she could try for one of the Care Bear "figurines" in the quarter machine.  She's been sick so I gave in and put the quarters in and let her turn the knobs.  Lo and behold, out popped a plastic egg with a Care Bear in it.  She said, "I WON!!  I da wuckiest dorl in da woild!"  So stinking funny.

A few days later we were back and Keith enjoyed that scene so much that he coughed up another 50 cents for another go at the Care Bear game.  In went the quarters.  Round went the knobs.  Out came the bear.  "I'm still SO WUCKY!!"

Today we went back.  What?  We needed, and I mean MEDICALLY needed lemons and garlic.  I couldn't resist.  We "played" it again and for the third time in a week she "won" a Care Bear.  What's really amazing is that all three are different.  I got to relive a piece of my childhood by looking up the bears' names on the internet.  Yes, she really is the "wuckiest dorl in da woild."  Or is that me??

Romance?

Posted in Laughing
We were playing store for our math lesson the other day.  We cut out pictures from the weekly grocery circulars and pasted them on a board with made-up prices.  Then the boys took turns choosing 2 items to purchase (adding 2-digit numbers).  We were having fun making up little stories about the combinations.  For instance, AC chose syrup and orange juice because his wife was making pancakes one Saturday morning and realized that she was out of both and he offered to go pick them up before breakfast.

Then TH chose salmon fillets and a bottle of wine.  His back story was that he was planning a romantic dinner for himself and his wife.  AC promptly retorted with, "Fish is NOT reemantic!!"

So there you have it, fish is most emphatically NOT "ree-mantic."  Keep that in mind, gentlemen, the next time you're planning a date night with your bride.

Pop Dickens

Posted in Laughing
Recently my boys have begun perfecting the subtle art of deception.  Namely, they've learned to leave out certain details that may or may not be deemed important, depending on your point of view.  When I hear a tale of greed, violence, destruction, theft, etc, I have learned to ask the accused for any additional information he may wish to share.  Here is how these conversations usually go:

TH- MOM!  AC spit his water all over my blanket and now it's wet and I can't sleep!!

AC- but...

Mom-  Please let TH speak his piece.  Then you may speak to me.

TH-  My blanket is soaking wet and it's all AC's fault.

Mom-  Oh dear.  Why did you get your brother's blanket wet, AC?  That's gross!

AC- But Mom!!  Brother told me a joke while I was taking a drink and when I laughed my water accidentally sprayed out of my mouth!  It was all Brother's fault!!!

Mom- Ah...the plot thickens....

And so on, until I find out that the boys were having a contest to see who could make the other one spray water out faster.

Apparently it is only recently that I started using this phrase, "The plot thickens..." because on night last week the boys were relating an incident to Keith after they were supposed to be going to sleep.  They were both going to get in trouble for their part and AC, in an effort to further explain and possibly exonerate himself says, 'But Daddy, wait!  WAIT!!  POP DICKENS!!"
