Our 4 new steers were delivered Saturday morning...a little later than we thought, but they were in good shape :) They were a little rambunctious at first but settled in quickly and rested in the shade of the woods for awhile before grazing with the others we already had. Our biggest steer has been separated and we are currently feeding him out, he's in the pasture next to the others for now. We aren't sure if we are going to feed him out for 2 or 3 months. _____________________________________________________________ Saturday Lance got a call from his friend Darren. He asked if Lance had any hay he could use to get his grass growing. Lance told him he could have all he needed so Darren was planning on coming Sunday morning to pick it up. Later Saturday afternoon he called and said he would be over Saturday afternoon instead of Sunday morning. He said he picked up two piglets for us at the auction and wanted to bring them over to us when he picked up his hay. Lance asked what he paid for them and Darren wouldn't tell him, he said no charge for us. We traded two round bales of hay for two piglets. LOL. Bartering rocks! It's great to have good friends, Darren lives almost 2 hours away from us and he is always doing nice things for us...he and Lance trade services...Lance does plumbing for him and Darren brings us firewood...it's a win-win situation. Lance, Lauren and I (Lilli was still at my parent's) went for a little ride on Saturday to look for an auction house that Lance had heard about. We never did find it, but it was so nice to just go riding around and enjoy the scenery. On the way home there was a yard sale sign so I told Lance to slow down so I could scope it out when we drove by. LOL. There was a kayak so I thought we should stop. We have been looking for one for Lilli as I think she'll be big enough for her own this year. Well, it was a Rascal brand, the same as my dad has (and we really like his, it's very stable and nice for young paddlers). The lady wanted $150 for it but we got it for $120. I think we got a good deal. It seems to be in good shape, a few scrapes and dirty from storage but otherwise just fine. We will have to get a paddle and a skirt yet, but I think we did well on the price :) I kept super busy in the kitchen yesterday. I made stuffed green peppers (we didn't have them earlier in the week) and a meatloaf for our early supper. I made two baked spaghettis...one for my dad's today and one for a friend that just gave me a bag of clothes for Lauren. (I took pictures while making the baked spaghetti, so I'll post the recipe with a picture tutorial soon). I made cinnamon bread in the bread machine to use in the "overnight Caramel French Toast" I put together last night. Darren and his brother were here until about 9PM last night. They had a nice visit with Lance and I think they enjoyed watching the piglets for quite some time. The two new ones are smaller than King Tut and the smallest one is just plain cute. LOL ____________________________________________________________ We ate the french toast this morning and it was good. I wasn't so sure as I wasn't so crazy about the cinnamon bread when it got done, but I was pleasantly surprised and even enjoyed the finished dish. LOL The recipe can be found here: http://www.homesteadblogger.com/lancelotacres/95088/ _____________________________________________________________ Lilli spent Friday and Saturday night with my parents this weekend, so we are missing her terribly. I can't wait for her to see her kayak. We are heading to South Haven early this afternoon and spending the afternoon with dad in celebration of his birthday (it was Friday). Vicki and Alyssa and my brother Tom and his wife (and boys?) will be there too (Dustin is working). It will be a nice day I'm sure. I'm bringing the baked spaghetti and I think Vicki is bringing the cake. I hope to take a few family pictures today, so I'll post them soon...
