Homemade cleaning recipes

I was browsing blogs last night and I came across this one:

She had posted several recipes for making your own cleaners and I thought they were fantastic.  I asked her if I could repost them here.  I really like the pre-treat  and the Febreeze ones.

Furniture polish

1 cup olive oil

½ cup lemon juice Mix together in a clean new spray bottle. To use, remember to shake before each application. Apply a small portion to your cleaning cloth. Spread the polish over the furniture, trying to polish evenly. Use another clean cloth to polish the surface dry.

 Home made pre treat spray
1/2 cup ammonia
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup baking soda
2 Tbs liquid soap
2 qts water Mix all ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake the bottle very well before each use! Spray the liquid onto the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Launder as usual.

Home made Febreeze I take one cup of fabric softener, one cup of vinegar and 2 cups of water. Put it all in a spray bottle, shake it up a bit to mix it.
Spray just like you would with real febreeze.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner
1/2 cup borax
Scrub bowl with borax & a brush

A Homemade Scouring Powder
(to replace Comet, Ajax, BonAmi and Soft Scrub)
1 cup Baking Soda
1 cup Borax
1 cup salt
Use as you would a commercial scouring powder.

Beeswax Furniture Polish
4 oz. beeswax
2 T. carnauba wax
2 1/2 C. odorless turpentine or mineral spirits
Melt the waxes on HIGH in a microwave or in a double boiler. Remove the waxes from the heat and stir in the turpentine or mineral spirits. When cool, store in a tightly capped container.
Apply the polish with a clean cloth and rub in small circles. Turn the cloth as it becomes dirty. Allow the polish to dry, then buff with a clean cloth. If more than one coat is desired, wait two days between applications.

Home from the Dr...

Well, I thought I'd post real quick while I had a minute. 

The Dr says we need to get to the bottom of this cough (DUH).  She did give us the Zithro per my request.  She says that's a short-term solution (DUH) and that the allergist is a good 'next step' in finding the problem. 

If the allergy testing comes back negative, they may take X-rays of her sinuses to see if the cough is from chronic sinusitis.  She had X-rays of her sinuses in 2006 and they came back clear, but I guess they plan to do them again.

There is also another test they can do to see if the Prevacid is helping her reflux.  If the reflux is causing the cough and the Prevacid isn't helping the reflux...that could be the problem.  We'll just have to see what the allergist says.

They also want us to continue the Pulmicort twice a day to try and keep her bronchial tubes open and prevent the cough from coming back again once it's gone.

I am never glad that she's sick, but I was glad that the Dr was able to see her with a fever (it was 101 when they took it at the office), and they were able to hear her cough.  I swear we usually go in and she doesn't have a fever and doesn't cough the whole time we are there.  I do think the Dr believes me, but sometimes I feel like they think I'm exagerrating (sp) the truth.

Lilli is feeling pretty good now.  She took some Ibuprofen when we returned home from the Dr and just now took her Zithro.  I'll give her Dimetapp soon to help the cough.  I'm not sure that's what helped her last night, but I don't want to take the chance and not give it to her.  She really slept well last night once she got settled.  Usually cough meds don't help her much, but hopefully this is helping and we'll have another good night.

Lance's dad is doing ok, but is tired from the Chemo treatments.  He said he thinks feels better, but is very tired.  He is still in the hospital and I'm not sure when he may go home.  I haven't talked to Lance much yet as he just came in and went back out to do chores.

Lauren has a runny nose and her teeth are bothering her.  Fussy and clingy explains it pretty good.

We didn't have pasties for supper:(  Nope, we had McDonald's.  Yes, health food, I know. 

We were just tired and hungry after leaving the Dr and then both girls fell asleep on the way home so I drove around 20 minutes longer than I needed to.  I know gas prices are outrageous, but it was worth it to let them both get a little nap.  Neither of them felt well, and I was glad to see them sleeping so peacefully.  I drove the backroads and enjoyed the scenery.

It was about 6:30 by the time we got home, and after baths and rocking it was too late to start supper.

I am going to boil chicken now though, to use in the chicken tacos tomorrow. 

Off to start the chicken, put the diapers in the dryer, and start bedtimes.

If Lilli is feeling better, we may go to the library tomorrow.  Nothing strenuous or exciting.  A nice relaxing day with a little outing if we are all up to it.

Off to the Dr we go....again. Sigh.

Yes, another Dr. 

Lilli had a fever over the weekend and last night, and her cough is pretty bad.  Her coughs don't just go away, they have to be treated.  She is currently on Pulmicort breathing treatments but they aren't helping her cough any at all.  I'm going to ask the Dr for Zithromax as that always knocks her cough really fast.  They don't like giving it to us for just a cough, but we need something that works and works fast.  She gets into coughing fits at night and they get pretty bad.

I'm hoping the allergist (next Monday) will shed some light on these coughs.  It's very frustrating to not know what's causing them and not know what to do to help her, other than the meds.

Lauren has a cold and her teeth are really bothering her.  She walks around with her fingers in her mouth all day and that isn't normal for her at all.  She is very fussy and clingy as well.  She did sleep better last night, so that was nice. 

I was up with Lilli until about midnight or so.  I gave her some Ibuprofen about 9PM (for her fever), and then gave her Dimetapp around 11.  It didn't seem to be helping her at all, but then around 11:45 the coughing slowed a bit.  She layed down and didn't cough much at all until she woke this morning.  Her cough seems worse when is trying to go to sleep, or just waking up.  Once she's in a deep sleep, she doesn't seem to cough much, if at all.  But the other times are pretty bad.

Lilli is my rocker.  She likes to rock when she's sick.  I like to rock her so we both enjoy it.  We rock even when she isn't sick.  :)

Lauren isn't so excited about it.  She wants to nurse or get down.  LOL.  Ah well.  Maybe when we wean...

I hope everybody is having a nice Monday so far.  I'll post again later with the results from the Dr appt and an update on FIL.
