I called Animal Control again today...

{ 03:58, 2006-Mar-6 } { 4 comments } { Link }

Since nobody has called me back after my call on Friday, I called Animal Control again today.  The neighbor dogs have been in our yard everyday since Friday.  DH ran them off several times over the weekend, and I took pictures of them today, right at our front door.  I tried to run them off, but they just looked at me.  They weren't going anywhere.

So, at least I have pictures of them in our yard for the Officer, if they ever show up.

It really makes me mad.  I feel that these dogs are dangerous, I can't let my chickens out, and I have to check the yard before letting RC out to potty.  That is crazy, and I shouldn't have to worry about my family and animals in our own yard.

UGH.

Sorry for the vent.  I hope the officer calls me soon...

I did make up a little sheet with pictures of RC with his wound, pictures of where the attack happened, with the ground tore up, and pictures of those dogs at my front door today.  I feel there is no way they should question me since I have that proof.

I will be glad to get our entire property fenced in this year.  It will take quite a bit of money, and it wasn't really on top of our priority list, but it is now.  Even if these dogs are taken care of (which is looking doubtful), there could always be others, or even other predatory animals.

It's just been lucky that our chickens have been locked up each time the dogs have been up.  We've been leaving them locked up since we know the dogs are coming up so often.

Anybody have experience with Animal Control?  I am wondering what they will do?  Warn the neighbors and tell them to tie the dogs up?  Impound the dogs?  Charge a fee?  I honestly don't even know what to expect....

don't wait too long

These animals sound like they will attack anything that is vulnerable. Many years ago, on a farm in SW Virginia, my Dad was trying to raise sheep. Neighbors dogs were constantly aggravating the poor sheep. Daddy complained to the local authorities, who did nothing. One night, Dad goes out to the field to find 3 or 4 sheep dead and the dogs attacking others. The neighbors became dogless. The neighbors swore out a warrant for Daddy, and for one night Daddy went to jail. Grandaddy paid the bail, and Daddy was home. When it came to court, the judge threw it out - because the dogs were a menace to the community. I'm not saying you should shoot your neighbors dogs - but I'd at least make the animal control people aware that I was seriously considering doing it. Whoever you talk to, whether leaving a message, or whatever, be sure you give them all the details. Especially that the dogs were aggressive toward you, an adult. You cannot let your child outside for fear of these animals. Make certain animal control understands that if they do not do something, you are going to shoot the dogs. Bad advice? Maybe. But, you can't afford to wait until your child is injured or killed.

one more thought

Sorry to keep on and on about this -- but if you have a shotgun, load it with rock salt. Your husband will probably know someone who can tell him about this, if he doesn't already know. It won't kill the dogs, but it will teach them to stay away from your place...

Sorry!

While I've not had this specific problem, we've had many dogs dumped on us (one of which we kept, but I can't afford to keep every dog dumped on us!) and we have a VERY hard time getting animal control to do much about it! They actually told me they do not keep notes to pick up a dog if they can't get to it that day! They said I had to call back EVERY DAY! Nice to see my tax dollars at work. I just wanted you to know that you aren't the only one who has a lousy animal control.:(

I agree with VT Linda! Call animal patrol AGAIN, tell them if they dont do something about it that you will have to shoot the dogs to be safe on your own property!
