Sunday DH moved a few of our goats around. The two boer does (that were with the bucks) he moved into our doe field. He took two does from our doe field and moved them out to the buck field.
The bucks were thrilled, the girls not so happy and voicing their opinions quite loudly. LOL.
We currently have 3 fields/pastures.
The upper field has 2 small Holstein steers, one Boer buck and one (young) Toggenburg buck...and now two does...a Tog and a boer/nubian cross. DH doesn't think the Tog buck is big enough to do his job...I think we might be surprised when kidding season comes (LOL).
The lower field has one large Jersey Steer and one large Brown Swiss (?) Steer. We sometimes keep the bucks down there with them...but they are getting pretty big and playful these days...I don't think they realize their size.
The front field is mostly woods..no pasture. That is where we have our does right now. 2 Boer, 2 Nubians, 1 Tenessee Fainting, 2 Togs (one doeling, one whether).
We move the goats around from field to field through the warmer weather, but have had them in these areas for most of the winter.
DH is hoping to fence another smaller area in the woods this Spring, and I'd like to fence the remainder of our property in. We use high tensile electric. Then we'd have to gate our driveway, but I'd like that anway, for those days when DH wasn't home.
We have strangers coming up all the time asking about our animals. It's a little scary when I'm here by myself. DH and I were talking the other day, and EVERY time somebody has come up to inquire about animals, I have been home alone with DD. How strange is that? Most people are nice, but it's still scary.
We hope to get a Livestock Guardian Dog this year, and a second one later this year or maybe next year, to breed with the first one. We can't get those until our property is fenced. I don't want them wandering...and I'd like them up by the house (at least one of them) to protect the chickens and guineas. That would also keep them in our yard area and we need a watch dog there.
DH has taken over feeding the does for me. This added a few minutes onto his nightly chores, and cut my morning chores down to about 5 minutes? LOL. He didn't want me lifting anything or worrying about moving hay bales and such. So now all I do is feed and water the chickens, guineas and cats. Oh, and let the chickens out for the day. They are free range.
What a sweetie!!
Well, it's past my bedtime and here I am, waiting for DD's meds to kick in. I haven't heard her cough in a few minutes, so I reckon that's good enough. We're gonna hit the hay! LOL.
Have a great day everybody!
