Sunday Ramblings...

{ 12:00, 2006-Feb-12 } { 0 comments } { Link }

Well, I haven't blogged in awhile...it's amazing how much I miss it when I'm not here.  :)

What we did about the girl that showed up at our door...I contacted a teacher at her school, who contacted the school counselor.  The counselor contacted social services who is going to look into the situation.  We will remain anonymous in all of this, per DH's request.

Things have been going good around here.  Chores take only a short time to complete, and the animals are doing well.

We plan to put some lice powder on the goats today, as I noticed them rubbing trees yesterday.  We aren't sure they have lice, but we do know it is quite common for this time of the year.  We'll check them before we actually powder them down.

The chickens are holding steady at 4-5 eggs per day.  That is a low count for our 12 hens, but we still don't have adequate daylight hours.  We could hook up a light in the coop, but 4-5 eggs is plenty for us, so we have no need to push them.  LOL.

We had company on Thursday night.  A close friend of mine had family visiting from out of state.  This family of 3 plans to move from Delaware to Arkansas and begin homesteading soon.  They wanted to see our place and how we were set up.  I don't think we are a place to learn from, but I'm so glad that they came.  We had a great visit, and were sorry to see them leave.  They had a 5 year old DD who played great with our 4 year old DD.  In fact, we didn't hear a peep out of them the entire time they were here.  The guys spent a lot of time outside going over shelters and fences, and alternative energy ideas.  Us girls looked at the animals and then came in where it was warm to discuss things and keep an eye on the DDs.  We really had a good time and are sorry that they live so far away.

We have friends, but I don't think we have ANYBODY local that has our mindset on homesteading.  This family did.  It was such a blessing to just visit and discuss like interests.

Friday night DH watched a movie while I played on the computer (I just wasn't in the movie mood...he called me moody...LOL).

Saturday we went shopping at a grocer about 30 miles away...they were having great sales...LOL.  Yes, me and my stock up gene at it again.  Canned veggies were 4 for $1.  Spaghetti, Rotini, Elbows, etc were all 4 for $1.  Coffee was $4!  I bought it two weeks ago for $4.50!  So of course I didn't need it, but well, coffee doesn't go bad, so you may as well buy more, right?  LOL!

We also bought DD a few little things for Valentine's Day.  A stuffed Unicorn, a small heart with Hershey's miniatures inside (these will last quite some time).  We also bought her a new game...Captain Bones?  It was on clearance for $5.  A friend of ours bought it for her kids, and all the kids are crazy about it, so I guess it's a great deal.  LOL.

DD and I went to a birthday party yesterday.  It was about an hour away.  I should just say no to these parties, but it's only once a year, and DD has a nice time there.  I just don't like to spend the gas money plus money on presents to go.  (I know, I'm a scrooge)...LOL.

Today we had a nice breakfast of Chocolate and biscuits, sausage, and biscuits and sausage gravy (DH doesn't like chocolate).  It was a nice meal.  Then I spent over an hour straightening the kitchen.  Cleaning the stove, things like that.

DH is getting wood now, and this afternoon we are heading to the movie theatre.  Curious George is playing nearby, and the theatre is very reasonable on their pricing.  $4 per person (before 6PM), and FREE popcorn and soda.  There is a one time charge of 75 cents for a reusable popcorn bucket, then you just take it with you each time you go to the show.  It's a great deal.

It isn't often that DH gets to go with us, so we are looking forward to it today.  We are hoping to start doing more faimly activities on Sundays.  Roller skating, bowling, movies, whatever.  Something to get us out and having fun together, but doesn't cost a lot of money.

We are having a chicken stir fry tonight for supper.  I love stir fries.  We have a great wok that DH had before I met him...that thing is the Taj Mahal of Woks.  LOL!

We have a busy week planned this week.  DH wants to build some shelves in the basement to hold all this overstock of food I've been buying.  (LOL).

Monday DH has to take my car, so DD and I will be home.  We do school from 8:30-10AM.  My parents  might come over, if my dad is feeling better (he's had a hard weekend...I'm not sure if I've ever explained about his health?  He had a liver transplant in 2003...my brother donated 50% of his liver to him...now they both have problems).  We have a friend that might also come for a visit.  Or, it just might end up being a quiet stay-home day.  LOL.

Tuesday we'll do school, and then we are watching a friend's kids for the afternoon while she works.  It should be a lot of fun, as all of our kids along really well.  DH offered to take us out to eat Tuesday night, but I declined as all the restaurants will be packed with other Valentine diners.  LOL.  Maybe we'll go Wednesday or Thursday instead.

Wednesday we have playgroup and then we are driving the hour to visit our elderly relatives.  They LOVE seeing us, and  I have a hard time telling them we can't make it.  I guess if I have the gas money, that is what I would like to spend it on...they are such a blessing with their talks of the old days.  I love being taken back in time.

Thursday we have school and we might have a playdate at a local McDonald's.  DD LOVED our playdate last week.  We had never been to this McDonald's and the play area is very nice.  DD wore herself right out.  LOL.  The climbing is very good for her, and the price is right!  I just buy her a Happy Meal sometime while we are there.  I eat before we go, so no charge for me usually.  Occasionally I'll eat, but it's not so healthy.  Too bad it always smells so good!

Friday we have a short session of school and then book club at the local elementary school.  It's a great program.  Free.  The parent's bring the kids to the class and they read a story and do a craft that goes along with the story, a snack and playtime.  They get to keep a copy of the book they read.  It lasts about an hour.  DD loves it, it gets us out of the house, and she gets to play with others her age.  We are trying to take advantage of these programs (playgroup and book club and family links) as she will be done with all of them come May.  When they stop for the season, she'll be done for good.  They are only good for kids up to Kindergarten age.  They said she could still come next year, but I don't think we will.  Her current friends will be attending pre-school and kindergarten, and I don't want to extend it only to have to stop it soon anyway.  We'll need that extra time for schooling anyway.

Friday night is my monthly scrap night at my house.  DH is so understanding.  Us girls take over the kitchen and talk and laugh and scrap and eat.  LOL.

Next weekend is open I think.

DH and I have been talking, and I think we may start trying for another child.  This is a big step for us.  I had two miscarriages before I got pregnant with DD.  I'm a little nervous, but so SO excited.  I'll make my gyno/OB appt on Monday.  I'm 2 years overdue for that check up (I am not so good at keeping up with those).  I'll get a check up and make sure all looks good (except my weight, which is OVER what it should be).  I'll go on prenatals too.  I'm not sure if it will take us a long time, or if it will happen right away.  I guess we'll find out soon.  I am very happy about this!  :)  I do wish my weight was down, so I'll do what I can to make sure I don't gain too much.

Geez, I am long winded.  I have to start writing everyday so these don't get so long!  LOL!

Have a great day!

Lisa
