Sunday Morning Ramblings...

Well, things seem quiet around here lately. Chores don't take long to do with the pigs gone, and the critters just seem content right now. DH walked out to the pasture yesterday thinking we had a sick/dead steer, and when he got closer, the steer raised his head and seemed to chastise him for interrupting his afternoon nap. LOL.
We have been a bit off schedule lately. DH has been working a lot of overtime, and he is so tired in the evening when he gets home, that I do his chores during the day before he gets home.
I've also not followed our weekly menu very close. With DH working so late, he isn't very hungry when he gets home, and it's too late for him to eat a big meal. So we've been having a lot of leftovers and sandwiches. DD and I eat leftovers, and DH chooses between leftovers or a sandwich, or sometimes he just wants popcorn before he goes to bed.
Our weekly menu will be flexible for the next couple weeks while DH is on this overtime. I didn't make the sweet&sour pork, and that really looked good. So I'm hoping to make it this week sometime.
Our school is going great. DD is such a willing student. We are just doing pre-school right now. We plan to start Kindergarten this fall and I plan to use Christian Liberty. The costs aren't unreasonable, and they provide report cards and transcripts in the higher grades. DD should be able to attend any college she chooses (IF she chooses), when that time comes.
We went to one of my friend's homes last night and the adults played 'Texas Holdem Poker'. Um, not with real money...LOL...just poker chips. Too bad it wasn't real money, as DH won! It was really a great time. The kids played with us for awhile, and played with board games in the floor near us at other times. It was a great time. We didn't get home until 11PM! That is EXTREMELY late for us. We do not EVER go anywhere, and I cannot remember the last time we were out so late! LOL. We are early birds. I'm glad we went though, it was something different, and we really enjoyed ourselves.
DD spent the night at my parent's house on Friday night, and my mom made her Chocolate and Biscuits for breakfast on Saturday morning...but DD called me to tell me that she STILL wanted Chocolate and Biscuits on Sunday morning too. So she had it two days in a row. She just loves that stuff. She likes us to make a fence around the chocolate (mud) with torn biscuits, and then put animals in the mud (pigs, horses, cows, chickens, goats...). LOL. Then she eats it all and wants us to do it again...and again, and again...
How do you all handle your kid's exposure to kids who attend public school? I don't know if I worded that right. I began taking my DD to Playgroup once a week when she was 2 years old. I did not expect us to become such good friends with the other kids and moms there. We get together at least once a week for playdates (outside of playgroup) at each other's homes or at a nearby McDonald's with a playland. I love our social time, and it is good for both DD and I. However...the other moms are not so supportive of the homeschooling, and often make comments about DD being in PS in a year or two, or that I should enroll her in preschool so that she can play with her friends. I just let the comments go, as it isn't worth an argument. I have become very close to these moms and I don't want to stop our gatherings. The gatherings will stop soon enough anyway, when all the kids start kindergarten. I guess I'm just rambling.
DH and I went to a town about 45 miles away, to go to a Rural King and buy two new Hay bunks for our critters. It seems much better for feeding! We had tried a couple different things, but these are working great right now.
Something we are doing for the does that is so easy for a feeder! DH just found two trees that are about 10 inches in diameter (each), the trees are about 4 feet apart...then he put one hog panel on one side, up against the two trees, and one hog panel on the other side of the trees. Then wired them together. It made a standing feeder for the girls. It works great, and we just used supplies we had on hand. I'll try to get a picture of it today and post it later...I don't think I explained it very good...
DH is picking up wood today. DD and I are home and don't have any immeidate plans right now. I think I'll go work on the weekly menu, and then think about what to do for the rest of the day...I'd like to do a little scrapbooking...
Have a great day... Lisa
