Sunday update on dad...

We went for a visit this morning and I think he's improved quite a bit since going into the hospital. 

He doesn't seem near as confused and he didn't grab his side at all while we were there today.  He said it is still sore, but he's not in near as much pain as he was.

He is starting to wheeze when he breathes now.  They took him for chest X-rays this morning but didn't have the results yet.  The nurses think this is because his pneumonia is breaking up.  He didn't even know he had pneumonia.  He didn't have any of the typical symptoms.

They believe the blood clots will dissolve on their own, but said recovery may take a bit longer for dad since he was so sick with the pneumonia and because he'd just had back surgery.

He is currently on two antibiotics for the pneumonia.  Zosin and Cipro. 

They are giving him insulin as his blood sugars are a bit high.  At home he takes Glucotrol (?) to keep it under control, but they don't give him that in the hospital, they just give insulin.  He is borderline diabetic, but hasn't had a diagnosis yet.

He is on Heparin (blood thinner) to keep any more clots from forming.

They are giving him Xanax to keep him comfortable.

They are giving him Tordol every 6 hours and Morphine in between if needed.  This seems to keep his pain bearable, but still noticeable.

He is also still on his regular meds...Prograf every 12 hours (anti-rejection).

Hmm, that's all I can remember right now.  I'm sure there are more.

He also received two units of blood the other night.  That really seems to have helped his stats become better...Oxygen level raised considerably in the day following the transfusion.

I'll post more tomorrow or sooner if there is any change.

Just wanted to say thank you for the updates!!! I will be praying!!!

Now, I don't want to scare you or get you upset. PLEASE make sure they have all the blood clots taken care of before he goes home. My uncle was in the hospital for a broken hip and got a blood clot while there. They didn't care of it properly, and he died in the parking lot. My aunt was helping him into the car from the wheelchair, and when he stood up and went to move into the car, the blood clot dislodged, and went to his heart and he died right there in her arms. He had already checked out of the hospital, so the hospital said it was not their fault!!! I just don't want something like that to ever happen to another person, so please make sure this is taken care of before he is taken home ok???
