Life on the prairie

• Saturday, September 20, 2008 - I got it!!!!!!

I finally bought a motorcycle today, a 2009 Harley Davidson 883L.  What's so funny about it is I thought a Shadow 600 was too big for me, rofl, now I've got one 223 cc. more than that ;)  We will be picking it up (rather, splitting the ride home) tomorrow.  It's 70 plus miles from the dealership to my house, and I have no town/traffic experience, so my very very kind husband is going to ride it to the neverlands (the plains) where we will switch off and I will ride.  I'm SOOOOO excited!!!!!  Here's the pic you asked for, QT ;)

I don't know if you have taken the ABATE Motorcycle Safety Foundation Riding School.............but I highly recommend it.
My gf and I did, and I am a much better rider because of it.

Be safe!

Hi ladies! Good to "see" you :)
Laura, I did take the ABATE course (both my hubby and I) about 3 weeks ago, and that was a phenomenally good choice! I learned soooo very much, and we also highly recommend it to others wishing to ride. I think one of the very best things (besides the obvious) that came out of it was learning that you need to be honest with yourself on the bike. If you don't think you can handle something, then move out of the way and figure a solution. We will be riding it home more than 70 miles today, my husband has very little recent experience in riding, even though he has ridden a lot in the past, so prayers would be appreciated, as he is doing the 'trafficky' part of the ride home, then will trade the bike over to me when we get to the rolling, emptier plains. However, there will be plenty of traffic there as well, as it is a highway. I'm slightly nervous, but think it's doable :) Safety is much more important than simply 'looking cool'. This is waaay different from a parking lot, and I'm really aware of it.
What state did you take your ABATE class in?

It looks like ours and we love to go riding on it. We keep it about 40 miles or less from home as I don't drive but just ride behind Frontier Man and that back seat is not made for distance! haha We plan on getting a bigger Harley for traveling in a couple years when this one is paid for but will keep this one as hubby loves riding it to work. He has a 40 mile ride to work and back and rides it every day -the 883 is the perfect size.
I am sure you will love your harley -ours has drag pipes -don't ya just love the sound of it???
I pray for our safety every time we ride it and also get up to pray for his ride to work every day. It is a must as there is an added risk on a bike that has nothing to do with your skills.

Happy trails to you!
Blessings, Jeanette
