On Tuesday a friend and I drove two and a half hours to central Kansas, to a town that has a Mennonite dress shop. Other Mennonite women give the dresses they no longer want, and the shop sells them, and the money goes to the Missions. The dresses are so pretty, and reasonably priced, and I bought enough to get me started, as I don't have near enough time to sew as much as I would like. So now I am wearing my Mennonite dresses full time. I will admit, it has taken a few prayerful moments before walking into a place that I know someone who won't think anything of making a remark. But I do get the nicest smiles from older people who remember when all women dressed so lady-like. And I definitly feel this is what the Lord wants of me.
It is supposed to be so nice this weekend, I hope to get so much done outside. I have spent the morning cleaning, and would love to go outside this afternoon. The flower beds need weeded, and the garden, at least the parts that are 'done', need tilled. I still have tomatoes(a few), okra, peppers, and watermelon. I had planned on planting spinach, broccoli, lettuce, and cabbage for fall crops, but I simply did not have the time to get the seed in the ground. We have a stand of trees on the other side of the garden that are going to come down this fall, and I would love to get more ground tilled for corn next year. I figure, the more I grow, the less we have to buy. Sometime this fall I need to get someone in to plow the entire garden, I have been told it would help the soil a lot.
