Thats one "trashy" patio
My daughter has a way of seeing things in a new light. She loves garage saleing, thrifting, and just plain ole trash diggin, lol. She recently found a few items in the trash while hitting some garage sales. I think she's done a really cute job with these items.
They recently moved the hot water heater that was on the patio to give them an open patio area. Here is what it looks like now.
The water heater was where the swing is now. Several things in the picture where found in the trash, literally. This table, which is now her little coffee table of sorts.

She loves the rustic look, so leaves most things as she finds them, rusty, dented, crooked, ect. Next is this little green bucket. It come with a cute little lid so that you can store something in, but she choose to use it as a planter.

And these I think is just a great find. She actually found a double wedding ring quilt top, handmade, sitting on top of someone's trash can last Saturday at a garage sale. Who in their right mind would throw something like that out, hummm. Anywho she picked up and it ended up having a little bit of damage, so she made these great little throw pillows for her swing and chairs. How cute!

And I thought I'd show you'll what she did with the water heater that they moved. She thought it would look cute as a "outhouse". She put an old vintage door knob on it and hung a occupied sign on it. She also painted the half moon, (by the way, does anyone know the significence of that?) and planted flowers around the bottom.

OH and a cute little mailbox on the door to receive the reading materials. LOL

And this, although wasn't actually free I think she paid a $1 for it, I thought it was a great re-use item. She took this old trunk and planted some herbs in it. She even painted little signs to let her know what was growing. I just hope it grows, lol.

She mailed some pictures of all of this to a friend of hers. The friend was really impressed with my daughters "greeness". The fact that she re -uses all of this stuff that would have otherwise ended up in the landfills, made her feel good. I don't think she had thought about that before. Her little secret talents are saving the world, LOL LOL.

I had a back-up Cheesecake

Today is my daughter Kristy's 25th birthday. This graphic reminds me of her, (except for those swollen feet, lol) she is always in her garden when she has extra time. Oh my gosh, where have the years gone. It seems like only yesterday that I was saying, "Oh I can't wait for her to begin walking", should have kept my mouth shut, LOL. If only they can stay little forever. Oh well.
She is a choca-holic and loves cheese cake, so when I came across this recipe I decided to give it a try for her. This is one of those cards that you receive in the mail free and you can order them if you'd like and pay so much each month. I keep the free ones, but never order the packages, lol. Anyway, the recipe is called Hershey's Best Loved Chocolate Cheesecake and here is what it is suppose to look like, and how it looks in my kitchen.

This is the first time I make a cheesecake from scratch, I've always just made them from the box mix, which by the way I had in my cabinet in case this one didn't work out. The recipe made more than would fit in the pie shell so I made a pan full of just the batter, and I have to say, it's pretty good. So all is well. This along with her steak, baked potato, and rice-a-roni (her thing, not mine) she's going to be full and happy at supper time. She has classes all day and it's calling for rain, so I just hope she has a good day. She came over this morning before class for her pancake and eggs birthday breakfast, so at least it started well for her.
In other news, my mom continues to slowly fade. I say slowly but to me she is a little worse each day. Two weeks ago she was walking on her own, which she can no longer do, at all. We literally have to almost carry her to change her. She is in diapers now and thank God, seems to be OK with that issue. I guess she just doesn't know what's going on. Her right leg is swelling a bit, but I know that is because she just sits all day and doesn't want to lift her legs. We did take her to the doctor and he did some blood work on her and put her antibiotics IN CASE she had a bladder infection. Couldn't get a urine sample so he's just playing by ear. I guess the antibiotics can only help her and not hurt her.
She isn't wanting to eat anymore, we're lucky if we get 200 calories in her a day. We have the Ensure drinks but she's turning away from even that. The doctor didn't seem to think that she was ready for a nursing facility, just in-home care. I explained to him that without power of attorney we couldn't afford to pay for that. He thinks he can help with that, but I haven't heard back from him on that yet. I will give his office a call today. We need something, I mean how do you feed a person who is refusing to eat. It's breaking my brothers heart because she just keeps saying she wants to go home, and poor baby she is home.
I had an insurance agent come to my home yesterday and sell me a medicare suppliment for mom. It's going to cost $138 per month, plus the $93 for Medicare parts A and B, but it will pick up everything parts A and B don't. He assured me that I didn't have anything to worry about. I pray each day that God guides me in every way, this is not my life, it's my mothers and I just don't want to make a mistake in an area that is important in her care. I'm too young for this, LOL.
I am so looking forward to the spring time so I can get out in my yard again. I just don't know how you folks in all that snow can stand it, I'm freezing here in the south without the snow. Maybe I'm not too young anymore................

A bit of wonderful news
I found this out yesterday afternoon, after the mail passed, otherwise it would have been posted on my Thankful Thursday list. The good news is that my daughter, Kristy has been excepted into the nursing program at her college. Thank you God for this blessing. They only take the top 60 nursing students each year. If she would not have made it in this year she would have had to take a few classes that she really wouldn't have needed just to stay in school, and when your making loan after loan to get your education, that's not a very good thing. The sooner you get into the program, the sooner you are able to join the work force in your field and start paying back those loans.
This is the part where she goes into the hospital and works with actually sick people. She has been waiting for this for a long time. She is so good with people and has what I call a "care givers heart". You know the type of person that does whatever needs to be done to get you well. I mean some people just aren't cut out for things like blood, stinky oozy sores, bedpans, and sponge baths, I can tell you for certain, I'm not one of those people. I can do what I have to do for my family and a close friend or two, but that is probably it. I often wondered what I would be like at the scene of a bad accident. I would like to think that I would be SOME help to the injured. But to do it day in and day out as a living, that's not for me. Like I said, I think some people are born with this gift.
This is Miss Kristy and my mom in a picture that was taken this spring.

Anyway congrats to my lovely daughter and congrats to me, now I know I will be well taken care of in my old age, ............LOL LOL

Let the Birthdays Begin
I mentioned in an earlier post that I have many many birthdays in December and January. These two months are so busy for me, lots of gifts, lots of cooking, lots of cake baking and candy making, lots of weight to gain, LOL. Today is a double-ly special day, it's my son Eric's birthday AND my wonderful bff Debbie's special day too.
Eric turns 24 today at exactly 4:55 PM. He was my hardest to deliver and has been a test of my patience since the day he turned 5, as are all boys to their moms, lol. He owns a big chunk of my heart, I love all three equally don't get me wrong, but he just seems to need a little bit more than the other two. Most moms know what I mean, I think we all have that one that touches us a bit more and just needs to know that we will always be there for them. Anywho, here is a couple of pics that I took today.
This is an ornament that he made me years ago. I don't know about you'll, but I kept every single thing they made me and hang them all on the tree each year. Sorry it's a tad blurry.

And this is him today, making a silly face. Why do they all do that, don't they know we have to put them through the whole picture thing each and every year?

I made his favorite, a cookie cake. He has been getting one each year for his birthday since he was about 10 years old. The last one I purchased a few years ago cost me $30, so I decided to make my own. Using a delicious recipe that my cousin gave me for choc chip cookies, I throw this together for all of $4. I have to save on the cake, 'cuz his favorite meal is a T-bone with a baked potato LOL, which I made him for lunch. But I was lucky, I got 6 of them on sale last week, shhhh, no body has to know.

Now I would like to wish my very dear friend Debbie a very Happy Birthday. Debbie and I have been friends for almost 20 years. Our kids were in the first grade together and we both did a lot volunteer work at the school. We hit it off and have been friends ever since. She is the sister I never had. LOVE YA Girlfriend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I hope everyone is having a great week. Now I'm off to cook ME a steak for supper, ummm good............................Kitty
