Weekend Wrap-up

Posted in Around the home

      Friday was "get out of the house" day. Since I can't find a sitter for mom no place in town, and my dd is out of school looking for a full time job now, I put two and two together and she works for me now. I wish I could be having lunch with her in town instead of leaving her behind, but I think we're both OK with the situation for now. I just don't know what I'll do when she gets that full time job elsewhere,  oh well, in the words of the great Miss Scarlet, "I won't think about today, I'll worry about that tomorrow"!

     So Zach and I had a good day out and about Friday. We ate Chinese at our fav resturant, and both had a belly ache after. Not sure if we ate too much or the food made us ill. I'm willing to bet it was that we overate, as usual LOL.  Did some shopping and spent too much money. Bought my mil a cute little plant with a tea cup planter, the cutest thing. I don't think she liked it too much, she didn't  really say too much. Yep I have one of those kind of mils, again I won't worry about that today either, lol.

      Saturday was spent piddling around the house and yard.  Also had a crawfish boil at my daughter's house. I went for a few minutes, but couldn't stay too long cuz of mom being here alone. Thank goodness my dd only lives two houses down. I can run for a minute or two and not worry too too much about mom.  But they did bring me a tray full of goodness to eat in front of the TV, and that is just what I did. When I have time, I watch the Lifetime channels, they have the best movies. Speaking of movies, I watched one last night that was really good. It was called "Saving Sarah Cane", good movie. Her Amish sister dies and leaves her with  5 Amish children to care for. Really good story.

        Mother's Day was nice, saw all the kids from time to time. Thats the one thing I don't get too much of now that the two oldest have  moved out, and that is all three in the same room for more than a minute or two. My eldest son Eric is always  moving around. He is so hyper and never sits still for too long. He bought me a beautiful rose and two wooden wind chimes for the front porch. Just what I wanted, (I left clues and hints, lol).  He was here long enough to eat a quick lunch and then he was out the door.   My daughter Kristy made a favorite dessert of hers, an euclair cake. She got the recipe from Paula Deens site, oh its so sinfully good.  That plus all the fried chicken and rice dressing that I cooked, made the day sweet and us full to the brim.  My youngest son Zach decided that for his gift to me he would do all my chores for the day. Yeah well that lastest up untill  about 9 am, then he was out the door, LOL. Oh well I guess it was the thought that counted.  I watched TV all afternoon, which is something I never get to do, because everyone was off doing their own thing. So all and all it was and OK day here on the plantation.

       Well I picked a bunch of blackberries from our bush out back, so I have a cobler to go cook,  yummy good stuff.  Have a great day everyone.

My Saturday, in a picture story

Posted in Around the home

      After fooling with this all morning,

I decided that I wanted to head outside and admire my flowers. Some are doing just wonderfully.

 And some were just starting to show some color.

But the one thing that they all had in common was, that they needed weeding.

But just as I  began to get to work, the wind started to blow,

And the sky turned black.

But it soon passed by with just a tad of rain. And soon I was  back outside weeding.

And while I was doing all this weeding, my wonderful hubby was cooking up a family favorite, boiled crawfish with all the fixins. Which I sat out under the tree to eat and admire all my hard gardening work.

After all the beds were weeded and the lawn mowed and my belly filled  I went back inside to enjoy my:

I hope everyone's day was as productive as mine, LOL.

Today's To-Dos

Posted in Around the home

cutecolorschores9.gif

    I love the spring, it always make me feel like cleaning, I think I'll call it spring cleaning, LOL.  It is like it is never ending, there is always another batch of clothes or dishes no matter how hard we try to keep up with it. I swear, if they made throw away pots, I might just give them a try.  I think I have elves coming into my kitchen at night. I wash any and all dishes before I retire for the day.  Each morning when I get up and go into the kitchen to make my coffee and breakfast there is ALWAYS something in the sink, a bowl, a spoon, a cup, or several of these items. Now, the thing is that no one in the house owns up to these dirty dishes. So then I have to believe I have hungry little elves living under my sink or in my pantry. Well all I have to say is that they had better learn to do dishes.

cutecolorschores4.gif

   Anywho, here is what I have on my to-do list today.

  1. Fix dh breakfast.  done
  2. Wash three loads of laundry. one down
  3. Pay bills. next thing I'm doing
  4. Balance the checkbook. just did
  5. Clean and straighten my closet. done
  6. Fill my new shoe rack. done
  7. Make all beds. done
  8. Change mom. done
  9. Feed mom. done
  10. School with Zach. done
  11. Dishes, those darn elves. done
  12. Blog. doing
  13. Feed animals. done
  14. Hang a load or two of clothes on the line. done
  15. Wait for physical therapist to come evaluate mom. hes come and gone
  16. Cook turkey burgers for Zach and I for lunch. we ate
  17. Run to Rite Aid for a few items for mom.
  18. Cook supper.
  19. Fold laundry once dry.
  20. More dishes.
  21. And last but not least, set traps for the elves. still working on it

Alright, that should keep my busy for the day. Hope you all find where your elves are hiding.

Thoughts for Tuesday

Posted in Around the home

cutecolorsfrog1.gif - frog

       My Saturday started at  3:00 am. A thunder storm was passing by and we were having our garage sale. So I was up wondering what my daughter had in mind of doing about this. So I got up and piddled around the kitchen for a  hour and a half waiting to hear for her. Well low and behold, she showed up. So there we were setting up for the big sale in the rain. Thank goodness we have a large carport area so that nothing got wet.  It stopped raining at 10 minutes before 7, our opening time, and low and behold they started coming. We had a steady flow of people come in and out untill 10:30.  We sold for over $150, which was great. I donated all my earnings to my daughter to help with a bill that she had to pay.  The rest of the stuff we hauled to the Goodwill. And since we were there I bought myself 4 summer shirts. A girl can never have too many summer shirts. LOL. At least thats what I told my dh.

     Sunday we had a bar-b-que and invited some new neighbors over. They moved in a few weeks back and the man took a liking to my son Zack, who loves visiting all the neighbors. At two years old I would find him at the old couple's  house next door sitting at the kitchen table with his sippy cup full of koolaid or coffee. LOL.  So well I figured we had better get to know these new people if my son was going to be fishing with this guy. They seem really nice, other than the fact they were and hour and half late, (we started without them), they showed up when we were having dessert. OH well, it turned out OK. They did eat and run but I was tired anyway, so like I said, it was OK.

      Yesterday I got a call from the doctor's office letting my know that I will be getting help for mom, finally. They are sending out Home Health Care once a week to help me with whatever I need them to help me with, like batheing her. Then several times a week we will get a physical therapist to help her move better. She is not moving hardly at all these days so her muscles have just vanished and she all but screams when we move her to change her. So that is a great blessing for all of us. Thank God for that.

       Well I have an errand to run, so let me get back to work. Never a dull moment around here. Have a great day everyone.

No More Tears --- Duhhhhh

Posted in Around the home

           My brother in law came by the house yesterday with two plastic grocery bags full of fresh green onions and asked me if I wanted them. Well heck yeah, I want them, I cook with them almost everyday. I do live in Louisiana don't I? LOL

          So this morning after dh left for work I started in on the first bag. I washed them all and bunched them and put them in the  drain wrack to dry a bit.  Got out the BIG chopping board and began. About 10 seconds into it, the tears started flowing. I looked at the amount of onions that had left and thought to myself, "there has to be a better way."  Remembering something I had read once about this subject, they suggested to wear goggles, not an option, don't have any available.  Another trick was too light a match and hold the burnt stick between your teeth, been there - done that - didn't work. Option  three, a fan, duuhhhhh! So off I went to fetch a small fan that I have sitting next to the computer. And Viola, no more tears. I was able to put up 7 quart bags of green onions with not one tear shed.

And since I was on a roll, I decided to go ahead and chop all my white onions, which I also use amost on a daily basis too. Got a gallon bag full out of those.

So I won't be crying over chopping onions for a while. Now if I could just figure out how to get that milk spill cleaned up, oooooo "here meenew meenew!" Speaking of cats, I thought this was cute. As I was standing there chopping all the onions, I glance out of the window to see all seven of my cats heading off in the same direction.  Now what do you think they are up too? Must be some secret gathering of the "Kitty Kat Club".

Doctors and Lawyers

Posted in Around the home

      Monday afternoon Zachary tells me that his throat hurts a little, well by the late afternoon is was full blown PAIN, (you know how guys are lol), but in his defense he was running a fever. So I called the doctors office and made an appointment for Tuesday morning. Well the pain was for real, he has strep throat. My dd, who helps me with mom, tell me this morning that her throat is feeling a little thick too. Well now, that is just what I need now with mom living here. I never worried about the kids getting sick until now. I mean I never wanted them to be sick, but if I caught anything, it was just me. Now it's mom and oh Lordy if she gets sick, it's hospital time for sure. Poor heart, she can't even answer a question anymore, so I know she wouldn't tell me if something hurt or she didn't feel good.

     Tomorrow morning I have an appointment with a lawyer to see about mom finances. I thought it would be easier but I should have know better than that. I have to go to court to get her found incompitent (sp) then get  hold of her money and put into one account and leave it there untill I decide that it's time for her to go into a nursing  home. Then her medicare check picks up the first $1,200 and I (with her money)  have to pick up the other $2,400+ each month. Yes, it cost $3,600 plus medicine per month for a person's stay in a nursing facility, here anyway.  I do this untill all her money runs out, then medicade kicks in, provided, that I didn't give any of her money away. So that leaves me with telling my brother he can no longer get  his $100 a week "survival" money from moms account. I guess its time for him to grow up. He knew this day would come and by gosh it has. I found out that medicade can audit moms finances up to five years back, and for every so many thousands of dollars that she, in their eyes, "gave away", she will be withheld one month of care in the nursing home, or I have to pay out of pocket, and I know that can never happen. I most certainly don't have $2400 laying around. OK, so once she is in the home and all her money runs out, I will have to take her out! Not sure whats going to happen, I'm just praying that they don't find anything in that grey area. But there is no telling what she gave him before I took over her account. We shall see I guess.

      Shrimp stew is on the menu for tonight so I'd better head to the kitchen and get to peeling those little buggers. Have a blessed day......................

It was so nice

Posted in Around the home

          The funeral for little Davion was just perfect. His mom and dad dressed him a little white tux, oh he was just too cute. The mass was so personal and touching. A friend of the mother wrote and sang two beautiful songs for the baby. It was so nice. Then he was layed to rest in the baby section of  the cemetery, which I did not know was there, under a big beautiful oak tree. The wind was blowing all the leaves down around us, like I said it was just so nice. And once again I just want to say a big  Thank You  to all who left well wish and said prayers for the baby and his mother.  She seems to be doing much better than I thought. She showed so much grace today, I was very proud of her.

                       ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
           I also had another loss, my freezer died yesterday. If it wouldn't have been for the fact that I felt like munching on some pecans, I would have lost well over $400 worth of meat.  I scampered around and moved everything here and there, and what didn't fit in the other freezer, I cooked. For lunch tomorrow we are having deer, lots of deer. I'll cook too much and eat it all week before I let it go to waste, lol.
           My new storm door is in at Lowe's, I had to order one specially made because my house is so old, that they apparently do not make this size any longer.  So I will head out that way in the morning for that and I guess I will get another little chest freezer. They run around $150, I'm just so thankful that I still have a little bit of our income tax check left.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend..........
Around the ole homestead
Posted in Around the home
     The weather is keeping me inside, so there really isn't too much going on around the homestead, lol. It rains almost everyday early in the morning when everyone is traveling to work, which I don't like, it makes for dangerous roads.
    I did notice that the peach tree was in bloom so I thought I would grab a shot of that. The flowers are so beautiful. I do hope we are able to save some peaches this year, we have more trouble with the worms getting to the fruit before we do. Someone told my husband to spray and keep spraying, but I find that dangerous to our health. I mean don't the peaches soak up the poison? Does anybody know when would be a good time to spray, or do you have a safer more natural  way of getting rid of the little pest. I've tried all kinds of different recipes for this, but nothing seems to work.  Its the kind of worm that leaves a little bubble where it ate its way into the peach. We lose all of our peaches and plums to this little creature. HELP!!!  Anywho, here is a pic of the blooms and the dark sky behind them.
Here is a better one of the color in the bloom, be it a little blurry tho.
This is just some cute little wildflowers taking over behind the chicken coop.
Well I hope the weather is better in your parts.........
One hour makes a difference
Posted in Around the home
     With the time change this weekend my dh changed hours at work. As far as I can remember this is the first time they do this. Instead of work starting at 6 am it now starts at 7.  I'm not complaining mind you because I get to sleep an extra hour, but it does kinda throw off my day.  I liked getting up early, it gave me extra time to do what I needed  or wanted to do before I got Zach up for breakfast and did school.
    I still managed to find some time to "declutter" the dinning room and china hutch this morning. I had a collection of salt and pepper shakers that had at least 60 to 70 sets in it. I had to cut that down by at least half. I was running out of room, and those things collect so much dust. Did I mention I hate to dust, worst chore ever invented. I'd rather stand on my head and stack B B s.  I did get the collection cut down a good bit and now they are tucked  away in the china cabinet not getting too dusty, yeah. I also went through my closet while putting some close away,  and have a stack of shirts for the goodwill.  After hitting the closet  I knew it was time to attack the shoe monster. You know how I knew that,  well when it makes it way out of the closet and onto the floor and you trip on it just walking around the room, you know its time to do something.  I am nuts, just plain nuts, I see a pair of shoes at a thrift store or garage sale for a quarter or fifty cents and just because they fit me, I buy them. I don't need them mind you, I just buy them.  I absolutly refuse to buy another pair of shoes for the rest of the year. No matter what, there is no occasion that could come around that I would need to go out a spend money on new shoes. I have every occasion covered.
"Lord, this is Kitty. If I buy another pair of shoes for the rest of 2008 please see to it that my feet swell up so that I can not wear said shoes. And buy the way, slap my hand it you see me looking at purses too. "   Thank you God
      My husband going to work earlier in the morning also puts him coming home an hour later in the afternoon. So I have a little extra time to spend with mom before I head off to the kitchen  to start supper. Her feet were a little swollen so  I gave her a foot massage for over 45 minutes a while ago. It breaks my heart because she is now at the point of not knowing who we are sometimes. This is not all the time but every now and then she will ask me questions  as if she does't know anything about me. Or she'll say that I remind her of somebody. Those are the moments that I bow my head, one for her not to see me tear up, and two to ask God to give my strength of heart to deal. I know inside it will only get worse, and I guess  I still have some preparing to do inside.
Tackle it Tuesday
Posted in Around the home
I knew that when mom came to live with me I would need to get some sort of chair protection, due to her no longer being able to go the bathroom on her own.  The week that I was getting her room ready, I visited several thrift and junk stores in the area looking for needed items. I found these water proof crib pads and two crib blankets. I also found some type of plastic that to me looked like the covering on a crib mattress.
My plan was to make a couple of water proofing pads for her chair. Well I finally got around to doing them.  Here are the finish products.
I have some of those disposable pads, but they don't seem to want to stay put when she moves around.  So I'm hoping these do the trick.
Also thought I would show a few pictures of her room that I  set up for her. Keep in mind that it use to belong to my 15 year old son, so it is a big big difference. I wish I would have taken some before pictures when I started in it.
There is the chair that I got for all of $10 and the curtains and table covers for $8. I thought they were nice, and at the time I couldn't be too choosy.
If you noticed, there is a quilt rack at the foot of the bed. I picked that up on the side of the road about two years ago. One of the boards had a slight crack in it. All it needed was a small bracket, and viola!
I filled her room with tons of pictures that she had in her home to make it feel like her home.  I think it worked, cuz she has not said one word about going home since she got here. Thank you Jesus!
And here is a few more pictures that I placed in this cute picture board that I found at the junk store for $1. I filled with old pics of her and my dad. And one of me when I was about 6 or 7, see if you can find it. LOL
OK, well thats the tour. She seems very comfy in her new home, again thank God. She is doing really well, eating all the time now, which means more changing, but hey, shes eating......................
Southern Signs of Spring
Posted in Around the home
While most of the US is under  all of that snow, here in the south our grass is still green.  I went out and walked around the yard this afternoon and noticed a little color in some spots. Here is some Crocus (sp?).
Some small, but blooming Azaleas.
Some wildflowers by the ditch.
And my favorite, the little purple shamrocks.
Hope you'll enjoyed the splash of spring time............
Tackle-it Tuesday
Posted in Around the home
    Just wanted show the progress of my home management binder that I have been updating. I received a new printer for Christmas, so now  I am a "printing fool".  I have found  some great websites for just this thing.  Here is what I have to work with so far.
    I found the binder and page protecters on sale at Wal-mart. This time of  year is great for finding home organizational tools on sale.  I have been spending time filling out the  sheets with all my information. Some sheets I will take to the printing place and make the copies I need to fulfill the entire year, it's cheaper than the ink for my printer, lol.  Here is a list of web sites and different sheets that I've  printed out for my binder.
Main Street Moms
Household Notebook
Better Budgeting
Some of the different worksheets that I found were:
  1. A freezer inventory sheet
  2. A pantry inventory sheet
  3. A birthday and anniversary sheet
  4. Shopping and grocery list
  5. Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly menu plan sheets
  6. Weekly and monthly chore/task sheets -children and adults
  7. Monthly budget/spending worksheets
  8. Master phone directory sheet
  9. Restaurant and take-out  directory sheet
  10. Food diary sheets if your dieting
  11. Blank sheets with or without lines and borders
      There were many other sheets to choose from. I printed what I needed to work with now, and can always go back to get more if need be.  I do hope these sites and information is helpful to someone. I am so enjoying putting my binder together.  I will post the finished project soon.
Early Spring Cleaning
Posted in Around the home
      The birthday bar-b-que went over really well  for Zachary Saturday. We had soooo much food left over that I didn't have to cook on Sunday. So with that I took advantage of my free day, I did a whole lot of decluttering and cleaning.  I started with that utility room/ pantry right off of the kitchen. It is amazing to me just how much clutter can accumulate in even the smallest of places.
    I started by  removing all of the boxes, jars, and cans of food off of the shelves and cleaned down all of them. Then did the same with the appliance shelves. I should have taken the covers off and washed them, but forgot to do that.  I did have some food that had expired so out it went. I moved a few things around to make more room, which I didn't think was possible at first. We had just gone to Sam's and I purchased several cases of can goods and other larger items for the next couple of months, and was indeed wondering where I was going to store it all.  But alas I made room, I can actually fit a few more cases of things if need be.  (Might have to make another trip to my favorite bulk store, lol.) I probably won't do that because I need the room for my canning jars that I need to get down off of the extra freezer in there. This way I can get to them much easier.  I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch, lol.
    I also got in the bathroom, yuck. I have one word for why the bathroom gets so yucky in my home MEN! LOL yes I am passing the blame over to them.  Anywho, I took down the shower curtain and threw it along with the rug in the washer, cleaned all the walls, the tub, the toilet, (again MEN), and changed the shower curtain liners.   I still need to catch the mirror and sink area again today.
    This morning I got up and hopped right back into cleaning mode. I mopped the entire house, did three batches of laundry, hung one out on the line, straighten all the rooms, with the exception of Zachary's room because if I went in there, you'll may never hear from me again, yes it's that bad.  Oh well he keeps the door close because he knows I will say something each time I passed by it.  I also put some spaghetti sauce cooking in the crock pot for today's supper and did school. WHEW!!!
    I still want to take advantage of the weather and get some things done outside in the yard and on the front porch, I'm ashamed to say it's a mess.  I also have to get the recycling to the plant this week, it's overflowing.
     I think I have all this energy from starting my  "eating better plan". Not diet, I don't well with dieting, just the word tells me that I can't have what I want then I eat it anyway. This way I don't stress too much over it.  I am using my TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensible)  program for help with keeping track of what I eat and the exchange system. TOPS is fabulous, if anyone would like me to post more helpful  information about this program just let me know and I will.
   Well let me head off to the front porch. This is usually my soap hour, but it is pre-empted by our Governor's being sworn in or something, see how much attention I pay to that. lol..........Have a great day.............
Works for me Wednesday
Posted in Around the home
The Ten Clutter Commandments
1. Thou shalt ask yourself the following questions before acquiring something new:
~ Do I/we really need it?
~ How often will I/we use it?
~ How much space will it take up?
~ How much care does it require?
~ Do its design and quality meet my standards?
~ Is the price right?
2. Thou shalt buy something because it is truly useful, not because an advertisement promises it will be.
3. Thou shalt show an old item the door every time a new item comes into the house.
4. Thou shalt develop a habit of regularly giving things away to relatives, family or a charitable organization.
5. Thou shalt learn to enjoy things without having to own them.
6. Thou shalt put things where they belong when you’re finished with them; don’t take them halfway to their destination.
7. Thou shalt clean up the kitchen every night. Starting the day with a sink full of dirty, hard-to-clean dishes makes working in the kitchen difficult and inefficient.
8. Thou shalt save photos, not objects. Take a picture of your son in his Cub Scout uniform. Keep the photo; give away the uniform. It’s the memory you want to hold on to.
9. Thou shalt resist the temptation to drape clothing on a piece of bedroom furniture.  Undress near your closet and either hang up, put away, or toss clothing into a laundry basket as you remove it.
10. Thou shalt flex your clutter control muscle every day. Maintaining a clutter-free environment requires a daily commitment, but it takes just minutes.
Happy, Organized Home" by Kathy Peel)
Making Your Home a Haven
Posted in Around the home
Anne over at Lovin our Large Family is featuring Making Your Home a Haven Monday. Basically it just lets everyone know what you did in your home today that shows that you are working on making your home a special haven for your family.
     The weather was sooo nice today and felt so much like a spring morning that I did in fact do a little spring cleaning. Mostly decluttering around the classroom and dining room areas. I went through all the paper work  for my bill cabinet. I clipped out a large pile of coupons and cleaned out the expired ones. Several drawers were also cleaned out.  I also had several boxes of things that were to go to the thrift shops put on the porch for tomorrow. My ds and dd are making the trip for me in the morning.
    It always feels so good to purge through things and make room. Out with the old, in with the new, LOL.
Busy couple of days
Posted in Around the home
    Christmas was a breeze, but life back to normal is anything but, lol.  Thursday night we get a phone call from my mother in law saying that they are rushing my father in law to the hospital for the hiccups. I'm not sure why, but OK. My husband  was already in bed and didn't feel it necessary to rush across town for hiccups and I can't  drive at night, I have night blindness. So we opted to wait for another phone call. A call did come the next morning saying that they had kept him in the hospital.  He has started throwing up on Wednesday, which no one told us about, and apparently had dehydrated. We were also told his kidneys weren't functioning correctly. So he will be in there on IVs for a few days. I went yesterday for a quick visit, but with a room full of about 20 people, I'm not sure he even knew I was there. My dh is going once in the morning and once in the evening, and they can call if they need me. I  did put together a goodie bag of healthy snacks for whoever is sitting with him at night and left that in his room.  (Please keep Mr. Edward in your prayers for me and my husband.)
   I got around to taking down all the Christmas decor and finally got it back into the closet this morning. We have high ceilings in our home so there is storage space above the closets, which means there is climbing involved. OK, this is work for the younger set, which means I have to catch one of them to help me get my stuff back up there. A bribe of fireworks did the trick, LOL.  Everything is back up where it goes for another  year. Is it just me are does the whole decorating thing get a little bit older as the years progress? I use to love decorating for each and every holiday, but now it's more of a chore than a delight. Old age I guess.
   After getting that taken care of I pulled out my sewing machine to do some mending for my eldest son. And while I had it out I made these cute little pot holders. I so needed some new ones, my others were greasy and yucky and smelly.
    My dd and I were just talking yesterday about re-doing my kitchen and dinning rooms. I want to go with an apple theme for the kitchen and just a vintage look for the dinning room, which is right off of the kitchen. The wall color will be the same in both rooms since they connect, so that a good flow will be there. Sitting around thinking about it is great, but actually buying the stuff and getting your hands into the actual doing of it, is a whole other thing. No telling when I will have the spirit to do this. I hope the new  year brings me some much need energy to get a few home projects marked off of my to-do list. Have a great day...................
Weekend Wrap-up
Posted in Around the home
      Friday started out with the normal routine of cleaning house and  went right into paying bills and spending money, not fun. I not only have to do my own bills, but my moms once a month when her SS check hits her account. Her's  are a lot easier than mine to do because she always has money left over, LOL.
      We ran errands and hit the isles of Wally World, after sticking to my list I still managed to over spend on groceries. I used my debit card three times while in that store in different departments. I was doing some Christmas shopping in all fairness. My son wants a Ninendo game of some sort and talked me into getting it now because he was just so sure they would run out. I was OK with that, I had the extra money to do it,   and thats one less gift I have to go get, but now I would have to listen to "can I have my game now Mom?" I knew that would happen, so I didn't  let him buy a game that went with the machine, Ha Ha.
     Saturday started with some garage salein with my wonderful thrifty dd. I spent under $5 but got some really nice things for my money. I found these three pictures for my house.
     I love the country theme of each. I have to find some nice stuff to cover as much of this hidious paneling as possible. LOL  I found a few more things, some handmade pot holders, made by the cutest little old ladies, for a quarter and a red turtle neck shirt for a quarter and some embroidering floss with holders for 50 cents. Embroidering is something that I am just starting to do, so what better place to find things for it, than at garage sales and thrift stores. That way if I mess up learning, I wouldn't have spent a lot of money on it.
    After salein, I went to the grocery store where I buy my meat at. I found a really good sale on ground beef, at .99 per pound I was able to get some 18 pounds to put in the freezer. I would have gotten more if I would have more room. The room is being  taken up my the turkeys that I found for $.69 a pound. Stocking up while it's on sale, yayyy me!
     Sunday was spent moving furniture around in the living room and cleaning the places that you don't see too often 'cuz you don't move your furniture out of the way as much as you should to clean. I  have to place the furniture a certain way to decorate for Christmas, and my son was in the mood to help, so who am I to pass up free help.
   I also got a bit of work done outside. I started re-working my compost pile for my spring garden. I had kind of let it go for a bit, but now it's back in full "cooking" mode. I am planing a much larger garden come spring time. I can't wait. Also got my recycling station somewhat set back up.  Not proud of myself for letting that go by the wayside. Bad Kitty.
   Wel that's my weeked wrap-up, hope everyone is not stressing out too bad over the upcoming turkey fest. It will out come out great, no need for stressing.........by the way, my turkey is defrosting as we speak...................Kitty
She gets it from her mama
Posted in Around the home
         She is one of the most creative people I know, she can look at things and see something that I would have never seen in it.  My dear daughter Kristy is very crafty and pictures things in her mind the way she wants it to look. Also a  very good imagination when it comes to decorations. She loves to decorate for each and every holiday that rolls around. She can't wait for Christmas, she said she is getting up at 5 am on the day after Thanksgiving, not to go shopping mind you, but to decorate her home for Christmas. LOL
       Here is a look at a few things around her home. This is her entry way, I think it just too cute how she uses the old shutter and the little buckets. Also the little childrens bench that she found recently at a tag sale.
      These next two pictures are of some really cute little banner cards and letters that she made. I think she saw this one in a magazine. Notice how she used vintage door knobs to hang them on.
They spell out Give Thanks.
    Her new favorite thing to hunt for at tag sales and thrift stores are floral frogs. These are vintage plastic or metal objects that they would use to hold a flower arrangment in place at the florist. She is using them here to hold her vintage post cards that she also collects.
     Here is some spice bottles that she found and  put some autumn themed things into them. She is in the process of looking for winter themed items to change them up.
Well that's it for now, next week I will show off her talents with her Christmas theme. She is too precious, but I guess I'm a little prejudice.
Thanks for visiting...........Kitty
Beignets for Breakfast
Posted in Around the home
           This morning I felt like having something different for breakfast. Looking through the pantry I came across a box of beignet mix that I had bought a while back. That sounds good, and different, (although I know I shouldn't).
       I have powdered sugar sprinkled on these, but you can also eat them by dipping them in all sorts of goodness. Chocolate syrup, honey, maple syrup etc.  and don't forget, a coffee cup, LOL.
     If you would like to try these easy to make little goodies for your next Sunday breakfast or not to mention over the holidays when family pops in, you can order them over the internet.  Visit the web site for Cafe' Du Monde in New Orleans to get a box of this mix.
Getting some "me" time
Posted in Around the home
        It's so quiet here on my little homestead. I seem to never ever be alone, so with everyone out of the house for the day, it's too quiet, lol. Isn't that funny, we wish for quiet time then when we have it, we wish for company. Me anyway.
        Kristy and Zach or headed over to a flea market a couple of hours away.  I'm not much for riding in a car or traveling for that matter, so I choose to stay home sweet home. We did go to a few garage sales this morning before they left. Between both K and I, I think we might have spent $6. One sale was the "rich" neighborhood where all the doctors live. I don't much care to go to these sales, they don't really know how to price items. They think because they paid high for the stuff that they should sell it for a higher price. Not so, you don't sell garage sale items for what  they are worth, you sell them according to what people are willing to pay for it.  That is my philosophy anyway. I did find a very old  mirror for $1 to hang in the entry way. After I get it cleaned and hung up, I will take a picture of it.
     Well I think I will use my alone time to catch up on some sewing projects that I  have been letting slide. Oh I also found some vintage lace that I might try to do something with too. I was thinking of adding around the bottom of a denim skirt. We'll see.
Have a great weekend .................Kitty
This Blog
This is a blog about my everyday life on the "plantation". I live on a working sugar cane plantation called Leighton, in an 70 year old house that needs a lot of TLC. I live here with my husband of 19 years, Brian, our three children, one Mom with Alzheimers, some chickens, a few cats, and one little Chihuahua who thinks this house is hers. I'm a sahm of 18 years now. I homeschool our youngest, who is 15 and we both love it. I am in the homesteading mode now in this season of my life. I think living the simple life is the best way of living life. So come join me as I scribble down the ins and outs of my life on the "Plantation" here in south Louisiana.
