Thats one "trashy" patio

Posted in My Children

My daughter has a way of seeing things in a new light. She loves garage saleing, thrifting, and just plain ole trash diggin, lol. She recently found a few items in the trash while hitting some garage sales. I think she's done  a really cute job with these items.

They recently moved the hot water heater that was on the patio to give them an open patio area.  Here is what it looks like now.

The water heater was where the swing is now.  Several things in the picture where found in the trash, literally.  This table, which is now her little  coffee table of sorts.

She loves the rustic look, so leaves most things as she finds them, rusty, dented, crooked, ect. Next is this little green bucket. It come with a cute little lid so that you can store something in, but she choose to use it as a planter.

And these I think is just a great find. She actually found a double wedding ring quilt top, handmade, sitting on top of someone's trash can last Saturday at a garage sale. Who in their right mind would throw something like that out, hummm. Anywho she picked up and  it ended up having a little bit of damage, so she made these great little throw pillows for her swing and chairs. How cute!

And I thought I'd show you'll what she did with the water heater that they moved.  She thought it would look cute as a "outhouse".  She put an  old vintage door knob on it and hung a occupied sign on it. She also painted the half moon, (by the way, does anyone know the significence of that?) and planted flowers around the bottom.

OH and a cute little mailbox on the door to receive the reading materials. LOL

And this, although wasn't actually free I think she paid a $1 for it, I thought  it was a great re-use item. She took this old trunk and planted some herbs in it. She even painted little signs to let her know what was growing. I just hope it grows, lol.

She mailed some pictures of all of this to a friend of hers. The friend was really impressed with my daughters "greeness". The fact that she re -uses all of this stuff that would have otherwise ended up in the landfills, made her feel good. I don't think she had thought about that before.  Her little secret talents are saving the world, LOL LOL.

YES where do you LIVE, I want to shop with you and your dd.lol I love making things new and beautiful again. I believe its a gift of some sort because not everyone see's items like this and is able to do like what has been done here in your photo's. What great treasures!!. I find that for myself when I am not looking too terribly hard for a certain something, it always ends up jumping out at me and I see the potential, and of course would this work for me and what I would want to utilize it for. Thanks for sharing.... Great post and for stopping by my blog too.

Wow Kitty! Your daughter is very talented! I love everything she did. My favorite place to shop is the second hand stores for things that people "throw away". Have a wonderful day!

What fun seeing what can be done or used from that which others see as junk. I also love the rustic look and enjoy creating the Prim look I love. Thanks for sharing your dd's ideals with me. Great Job! I enjoyed your post. Blessings, rilda *U*

Blessings Sister Kitty!
I love the treasures:) I love barn saleing:) In fact, I adore trash treasures:)
The table she has is the same one my mother had for many many years. The lower rack is for LP records...you remember those:P A small turntable sat on top. I love it!
The quilt top find...fantastic:)
The outhouse? Charming:) Originally the outhouse symbols in the doors had nothing to do with anything. They simply cut a hole in the door to release the methane gases that build up in those tidy little cubicles. Men, mostly (yes women did too), would smoke in them while taking care of business. If the gases built up folks would literally blow themselves up! What away to go...ew!
The shapes that were cut into the doors changed to specific shapes later on to depict the sexes. The moon was the womens bathroom used because of the traditional symbol "luna" which didn't mean moon but rather meant womanhood. The star was used for the men and I can't remember why. My gran told me long ago but I just can't recall at the moment. Anyway, the men liked using the womens because it was kept cleaner and eventually the star was dropped and it became just a single (or two holer is what I grew up with) and everyone used it:)
The most interesting one I ever used was the two story one. It really did work and no one was icked in the lower half:P But it did look funny and I was not willing to be the one that it failed on so I refused to use the lower half:)
I went saleing today with my sweet husband and found some fun things too. Great day for it:)
Thank you for sharing these!
God be with thee!

This Blog

This is a blog about my everyday life on the "plantation". I live on a working sugar cane plantation called Leighton, in a 70 year old house that needs a lot of TLC. I live here with my husband of 19 years, Brian, our three children, one Mom with Alzheimers, some chickens, a few cats, a little Chihuahua who thinks this house is hers, and God by my side at all times. I'm a sahm of 18 years now. I homeschool our youngest, who is 15 and we both love it. I am in the homesteading mode now in this season of my life. I think living the simple life is the best way of living life. So come join me as I scribble down the ins and outs of my life on the "Plantation" here in south Louisiana. Want some sweet tea?
