26 Guards

God's 26 Guards
Here's a message (taken from my inbox)  that will bring you chills.

Have you ever felt the urge to pray for someone and then just put it on a list and said ,
'I'll pray for them later?' Or has anyone ever called you and said, 'I need you to pray for me, I have this need?'

Read the following story that was sent to me and May it change the way that you may think about prayer and also the way you pray.
You will be blessed by this....

A missionary on furlough told this true story while visiting his home church in Michigan ..
'While serving at a small field hospital in Africa , every two weeks I traveled by bicycle through the jungle to a nearby city for supplies.
This was a journey of two days and required camping overnight at the halfway point.
On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city where I planned to collect money from a bank, purchase medicine, and supplies, and then begin my two-day journey back to the field hospital.

Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting, one of whom had been seriously injured. I treated him for his injuries and at the same time talked to him about the Lord.

I then traveled two days, camping overnight, and arrived home without incident....
Two weeks later I repeated my journey. Upon arriving in the city, I was approached by the young man I had treated. He told me that he had known I carried money and medicines.
He said, 'Some friends and I followed you in to the jungle, knowing you would camp overnight. We planned to kill you and take your money and drugs. But just as we were about to move into your camp, we saw that you were surrounded by 26 armed guards.

At this, I laughed and said that I was certainly all alone in that jungle campsite.
The young man pressed the point, however, and said, 'No, sir, I was not the only person to see the guards, my friends also saw them, and we all counted them. It was because of those guards that we were afraid and left you alone.'

At this point in the sermon, one of the men in the congregation jumped to his feet and Interrupted the missionary and asked if he could tell him the exact day this happened.
The missionary told the congregation the date, and the man who interrupted told him this story:

'On the night of your incident in Africa , it was morning here and I was preparing to go play
golf. I was about to putt when I felt the urge to pray for you. In fact, the urging of the Lord was so strong, I called men in this church to meet with me here in the sanctuary to pray for you. Would all of those men who met with me on that day stand up?' The men who had met together to pray that day stood up. The missionary wasn't concerned with who they were, he was too busy counting how many men he saw. There were 26

This story is an incredible example of how The Spirit of the Lord moves in behalf of those who love Him. If you ever hear such prodding, go along with it. Nothing is ever hurt by prayer except the gates of hell. I encourage you to forward this to as many people as you know. If we all take it to heart, we can turn this world toward God once again.
As the above true story clearly illustrates, 'With God all things are possible'.

More importantly, how God hears and answers the prayers of the faithful.

Just another day?

Some things are getting done around the homestead. First off, yesterday I had to appear in court for the Interdiction of my mom. All went well and it's almost all taken care of. At first the lawyer said it would be this pertition, that court appearance, this appeal, that judge chambers meeting. I mean I thought it was going to be a long drawn out thing, but apparently I misunderstood what the lawyer was telling me, and all it took was one appearance and a few questions. I still have a few pieces of papers to sign and a bit of info to gather, but for the most part,  it's complete. Thank God for that, it didn't stress me out or anything, but I did want it over with.   Now I don't have to worry about mom's needs being met, I have the autority to do it myself. So thats done!

Today is someone's birthday in our home, coughmecough.  As I was saying my prayers this morning, at first the only thing I could think to say was, "thank you God for letting me wake up to another day and letting me make it this far, " LOL. Did I ask to see another 46 years, NO, I look at it like this, each day is a gift at this age, I'll just be happy to wake up next week.  LOL. Not that I'm soooo old, although I do feel 90 some days.

My youngest gave me the beautiful bouquet of roses that I shared with you all a couple of days ago. My daughter gave me a fabulous purse that she picked up on her vacation to Tenn last month, and my eldest son is taking me out to eat at Chilis tonight. I have never been there,  I really don't eat out much at all. There are several new places in town that I have never tried.  So with all this love be thrown my way, I'm feeling good today. Now if I could just get someone in to do the laundry and cooking, a perfect day would be had.

Well I do hope everyone is having a good morning, enjoy your July heat.

Things I see around the homestead

First let me show you what I did last week that I said my daughter said was, and I quote, "tacky" and "1960's ish".  I never thought I'd do it, but I really kinda like it now thats it done. I painted some large rocks that I had laying around the yard. I had brought them back from a vacation that we'd taken to Georgia a few summers ago.

100_0608

I also went ride by mom's house over the weekend and picked up the first of two birdbaths that she had in her backyard. I would have gotten both, but the car was loaded down with garage sale finds at the time.

100_0613

Speaking of garage sale finds, there was a rummage sale at the local E School. If you are not familiar with that, it's an organization that helps tutor homeschooled children. I could never afford to send my child there though. A friend of mine sent her little girl there once a week and had to make a loan to be able to afford to do so. So Zack won't be attending, lol. But they were pretty much "giving away" work books on Saturday. Every book and workbook in the place was on sale for a quarter. Yes, 25 cents. Needless to say I walked out of there with a large amount of books and workbooks for the upcoming school year. Very pleased with that. Here are some of them.

 100_0611

The wasp are on the war path here. I have had to distroy several nests so far. Here is a picture of a wasp staring at me from inside a little bird house. He looked like he was daring me, and lets just say, he is no longer.

100_0606

Here is one more view, a beautiful view. My birthday is this week and my sweet son Zachary had his sister take him to the store yesterday so he could buy this for me before he spent all of his money on himself. LOL How sweet is that. I wish he wouldn't have done that though, I hate that he spent all of his allowance and hard earned grass cutting money on me. You know how it is Moms. But aren't they gorgeous?

Right place at the right time, twice

Some of you who read my blog know that recently my ds purchase his first home. There is a little story behind that purchase. He was going to purchase a brand spankin new mobile home and needed a place to park it. Here you have to have a place to park the trailer even before they will aprove your application to buy one.  So he happen to learn of a small,  very well kept, park not even a mile from my home. So I told him that while he was at work I would ride by there and knock on a door or two and see if I could find out who they were paying space rent to. The first door, no answer, the second door (I heard someone walking around inside) but no answer, the third house, an answer. I preceed to tell the guy what I'm doing there, and one thing led to another, and now my son owns this 14 month old, still has the new smell, already parked and set up, mobile home. He was able to take over the notes, and saved a ton of money too boot. I prayed that if it was meant to be all would go smoothly. Not two weeks later, my son moved in, with not one hassle.

Second story! My dd has been looking for a job for some time now, a few months to be exact, since school ended. She was sending out resumes and filling out applications all over town. I couldn't imagine why she wasn't even getting  one call back. Then it hit me, God knew that I needed her at home with me to help care for my mom. My dd lives two houses down and is able to come several times a day to help change, bathe, and feed mom, really anything I need. I was able to pay her $100 per week for this help.

Week before last my dh and I went to the doctor for out 6 months blood work/checkup. As I was sitting in the waiting area I thought to myself how my dd would love to work in this office. With her nursing background, this would perfect for her. So as I sat there, something, GOD, told me to get up and go inquire about her stopping by with her resume. The young lady then tells me that yes they have two openings and will be hiring imediately. I was offered, and took, an application for my dd to fill out and bring back. So she did, a week ago Friday.

This past Monday I started receiving help from hospice, Tuesday my dd was called in for an interview, Friday she was called and told she has the job. She starts Tuesday morning. Praise God! See I told her God needed her here with me, then help arrives for me, and a job opens up for her.

So twice God used me, MOM, to get my children what they wanted and needed at that time. Now that's what I call "Being in the right places and the right times"!!!!!!

Just thought I'd share these little stories with you all. God has a plan and we just have to wait for the right doors to open.

Backyard Philosophy

Posted in From the Bible

True wisdom comes in many packages indeed. Sometimes
   even out of the mouths of babes, and sometimes from those of
   advanced years as well.  After all GOD often works through
   many different people.

  1. Be Fishers of Men.... You catch 'em, He'll Clean 'em.
  2. A family altar can alter a family.
  3. A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing.
  4. Don't put a question mark where God put a full stop.
  5. Don't wait for 6 strong men to take you to church.
  6. Exercise daily... Walk with the Lord!
  7. Forbidden fruits create many jams.
  8. Give God what's right, not what's left!
  9. Give satan an inch and he'll be a ruler.
10. God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
11. God grades on the cross, not the curve.
12. God loves everyone, but probably prefers "fruits of the spirit"
      over "religious nuts"!
13. God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.
14. Having truth decay? Brush up on your Bible!
15. He who angers you, controls you!
16. He who is good at making excuses, is seldom good for
      anything else.
17. He who kneels before God can stand before anyone!
18. Kindness is difficult to give away because it keeps coming back.
19. Most people want to serve God, but only in an advisory capacity.
20. Never give the devil a ride! He will always want to drive!
21. Nothing ruins the truth like stretching it.
22. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.
23. "Pray" is a four-letter word that you can say anywhere.
24. Prayer - Don't give God instructions - just report for duty!
25. The Will of God will never take you to where the Grace of
      God will not protect you.
26. This Church is "Prayer Conditioned"!
27. To be almost saved is to be totally lost.
28. WARNING: Exposure to the Son may prevent burning!
29. Watch your step carefully! Everyone else does!
30. We don't change the message, the message changes us.
31. Wisdom has two parts: 1) Having a lot to say.  2) Not saying it.
32. Worry is the darkroom in which "negatives" are developed
33. The work will wait while you look at the rainbow, but the
      rainbow won't wait while you do the work.

       Now,  I hope that you have enjoyed this message.
   Have a great weekend, and remember that God answers all
   knee mail!

Just a quick note

  I received a phone call yesterday from my bff Debbie, and she is coming for a visit. Debbie has been going through so much in your life lately, that I'm so glad she is finding the time to get away for a few days. Life around here is slow for now, Thank the Lord,  just what she might need. We will just sit on the porch and chat for hours and hours. Ahh good stuff!

  So with that said, I'm on a cleaning frenzy this morning and will be busy untill Sunday, with my friend, lol. So  I wanted to wish everyone a great weekend and if  you need me, I'm on the porch!

We are under quarantine

A quarantine has been placed on citrus trees in our parish because an insect responsible for spreading a plant-killing virus was found here.  The bugs, called Asian citrus psyllids, were collected in our area in June. Samples were sent to ag officials who confirmed the pest's presence. The paper is not saying exactly were in our parish. This insect carries a devastating citrus disease that can spread citrus-greening desease, also known as huanglongbing. The disease prevents citrus fruit from ripening and ultimately kills the tree.

Both Asian citrus psyllid and citrus greening desease are on the federal Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service's list of quarantined pests and diseases.  Since it's a flying insect, controlling its natural movement is really very difficult.

According to the LSU AgCenter Lafourche, our parish, is the state's second largest parish in citrus acreage including many growers who moved here from the New Orleans area after the 2005 hurricanes distroyed thier crops there.

(Taken from our area newspaper this morning)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK well, this is not good! I have several citrus trees that produce heavily each year. I am going to have to do much more reserch on this and watch them closely. My bil just this past weekend cut down several citrus trees in his yard  that had been there for years and years, because they looked "sick". I bet that was what was wrong with them. Even worse, he only lives two houses down from me, yuck! And not to mention, now the price of citrus  will sky rocket............
Tuesday's Thoughts
Posted in Just my thoughts
Well hospice is officially coming. The little aide came yesterday morning just as Kristy and I were about to bathe mom and quickly took over the process. I have to say, Kristy and I do a much better job.  Mom's hair was not washed, she didn't offer any oral hygiene, didn't clean her nails, or even turn her over and wash her back. And yes, I stood there and watched this go on, cuz thats the  type of person I am, never opening my mouth when I should. My dd and I kinda just stood there and took it all in.  I waited to see what she (the aide) was going to do next. Well what she did next was, left. LOL She also promised to bring back several supplies for us diapers, wipes, antibiotic cream and tecaderm bandages, none of which I have seen yet. I believe her words were, "I'll drop these things off to you before lunch". I should have asked her what day's lunch was she talking about, lol.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The fig trees are producing a great deal of figs right now. We are picking them by the gallon buckets full each day. My tree is doing so-so because it was damaged last year by some heavy equipment digging out the ditches, but my sil's tree is full to the brim. I have never seen so many figs. I made preserves over the weekend. The only thing wrong with that, is that I'm the only one who eats it, and that is not a good thing, cuz I EAT it! Ummmm so good, on toast! Now I'm hungry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm still working in the yard getting it together. I did something that I never thought I would ever do yesterday. I will take a picture of it later today and show you all. My daughter says it's so 1960's. How would she know, she is only 25? LOL Speaking of Kristy, she is on a job interview as I type. Last week when my dh and I went to the doctors, I ask the little nurse if they were hiring. As luck would have it, they were in need of two people. So I picked up an application for my daughter and she was called in for an interview. I pray she gets it, she is wanting a job so bad. I will lose my helper of course, but that is probably why God has sent me hospice. See, it all works out! Have a blessed day.
Who, Me?
Posted in Just my thoughts
My prayers this morning included this, "God, please don't let me leave any lasting scars with my attitude today."
OK ladies, can you guess what time it is?  LOL
So far so good, they all seem to be avoiding me, so that might be the reason no one has cryed yet. They've learned well.
Have a great day everyone.
The History of Aprons
Posted in This and That
cutecolorschores7.gif
 Aprons
          I don't think our kids know what an apron is.
          The principal use of Grandma's apron was
          to protect the dress underneath, but along with that,
          it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
          It was wonderful for drying children's tears,
          and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.
          From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs,
          fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs
          to be finished in the warming oven.
          When company came, those aprons were
          ideal hiding places for shy kids.
          And when the weather was cold, grandma
          wrapped it around her arms.
          Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow,
          bent over the hot wood stove.
          Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen
          in that apron.
          From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.
          After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
          In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples
          that had fallen from the trees.
          When unexpected company drove up the road,
          it was surprising how much furniture that old apron
          could dust in a matter of seconds.
          When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch,  waved
          her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in  from the
         fields to dinner
          It will be a long time before someone invents something  that
         will replace that 'old-time apron' that served
          so many purposes.
          Send this to those who would know,
          and love the story about Grandma's aprons.
          REMEMBER:
          Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies
          on the window sill to cool.
          Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.
THANKS NANCY, THIS IS TOO CUTE.
A new old cookbook, with gingerbread recipe
Posted in Recipes
 Another garage sale find that I can actually get some good use out of, lol. I found this Southern Living Homemaker's Cookbook of Cakes, copyright 1971.
100_0545
It has every kind of cake recipe you can need in it. I love to bake cakes, all kinds. I was looking through it yesterday afternoon I noticed that it a few recipes for gingerbread. My hubby loves gingerbread for breakfast. So this morning I got up and made him one. It wasn't untill the cake was in the oven baking that I remembered that just yesterday morning he was diagnosed with diabetes. I swear, I would forget my head on the pillow in the morning if God hadn't sewen it to my neck, lol.
The recipe called for cake flour, which I had. Does anyone else use Swans Cake flour? I made a coconut cake Sunday using which was delish, but I find it comes out like a pound cake. Does anyone know how to thin it out a bit for normal cake consistency?
100_0539
"Hot Water Gingerbread"
2 cups of sifted cake flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon gound nutmeg
2 teaspoons gound ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspooon ground cinnamom
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup molasses
   Sift all dry ingredients together three times. Cream shortening and brown sugar. Add eggs and beat thoroughly. Add dry mixture in and  continue to mix well.  Finally add the boiling water and the molasses to the batter and mix well.  The batter will be rather thin. Bake in greased 8 x 11 inch  pan at 350* for 30 minutes.
100_0548
My dh loves to eat it hot out of the oven dripping with butter.  I have to say, it's good like that, LOL. Both of us felt guilty for eating it, but soon got over it. I am use to not eating things like that myself, but not use to not being able to cook it for him. This will take some getting use too, cuz I love to bake things all the time. Oh well, it is what it is now.  Enjoy!
A busy day ahead
Posted in This and That
  I am going to be a bit busy today, we have many errands to run. First off, I made appointments for both my dh and I for our bloodwork and checkups. We both need to get our cholesterol and my blood sugar checked. So I figured since he is on his vacation this week, we'd kill that bird.  After that I have to stop by the lawyers office, who is handling mom's interdiction case, and sign some papers and drop off a key to him. That ball should start rolling soon.  I think my dh wants to stop and have lunch in town while it's just the two of us, how nice of him, lol. Then I have to run to the feed store and get lay crumble and corn for the chickens. Also swing by my son's house for a minute, then back home to wait for the Hospice folks to call or come by about mom.  I will  have a favor to ask about mom,  but I will get into more detail about that later when I know more about her condition. Then once home, do my regular house chores, oh buy wait, DH is cooking this week. HA HA  Well have a blessed day everyone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

UPDATE:

OK, we are back home now. All my blood work was good as far as my diabetes was concerned. I do however have a touch of high blood preasure now. So on the meds I go. Thank God the meds he prescribed was on the $4 list at walmart. And the hubby, who went for his BP check up, which was great, now has a touch of diabetes, LOL. So he was put on a diabetic diet, which he is not too happy about. So now I am just waiting for the Hospice nurse to arrive which will be soon. Will update on that situation later.

A mini vaca of sorts

Posted in Around the home

 Well ladies, I get a mini vacation, kinda. Actually my dh is on vacation, has been for over a week now. He returns to work next Monday morning. My vacation comes in the form of him doing all the cooking this week.

It all started when I sat down to write out my menu plan for July yesterday afternoon. I knew he was going to be home all  this week so I asked him what he was going to be wanting in way of meals. What he felt like eating.  Well he had no clue, as usual, lol. After some time he still couldn't tell me what he wanted. I then told him that I was going to cook "this" on Monday, "that" on Tuesday, and so on. He steps up with "but I don't feel like eating that". It amazes me how he can tell me what he doesn't  want, but can't tell me what he does  want.  He then said he had to think about it for a while. I told him not to take too long, I had other things to do, lol. Then he comes up with the idea of doing all the cooking for the week,  yeah right. "No, I'm serious", he says.  I told him that his plan was fine with me, but he had to come up with the idea of what to cook each day. To me that's the hardest part, trying to decide what to cook, that is why I love love love menu plans.

   Keep in mind that my husband can eat fried chicken, spaghetti, and hamburgers everyday  for the rest of his life and be happy with that. So with that said, guess which of the three we had today. Spaghetti and meatballs!  LOL (Too bad his idea didn't include the cleaning of the kitchen).

    On another note, I had to call mom's doctor today. Her left leg is swollen, I mean the whole leg from top to toes. It was bound to happen, I mean she is bed ridden and pretty much never moves unless we move her. The doctor called me this evening and talked to me with a few questions. He seems to think that it's a clot. I had a feeling, and  that is what my dd, the nursing student, thought it might be too.  Each day is a new adventure with her Alzheimers. The doctor told me today in our conversation that she is his youngest patient with that. She is only 65 poor bet and was diagnosed over three years ago with it. He spoke of Hospice, I asked him if he really thought she was that for gone. Lets just say I didn't like his answer. It's all in God's hand, I just pray that He shows me the way to go with her care.

Done painting, finally

Posted in Around the home

     WE ARE DONE! The biggest part was done last weekend, but there was a few little things that needed taken care of. So little by little, something each day, it was finished. We completed all our task as of yesterday afternoon. The roof had to be finished, we had only enough paint last weekend to do half the house. The garage/carport is done now too. I went around touching up trim spots late yesterday evening then threw out the empty can and shouted AMEN.  "As God is my witness, I will never go painting again"  LOL.

      Yesterday morning I went to see my son Eric's new home. He was moving in some new furniture that he just had to have, younguns. So I took a few pictures of him and his new home. I think he got a good deal on it, he refinanced it with the company that the other owners bought it from and just took over their notes. They owed $36 thousand on it. It was two years old but the former family took really great care of it and did a good deal of upgrades. New hard wood floors, crown molding, and a pantry addition.  Here is a couple of pic. Can you tell how happy he is? LOL

Him with his big smile and new furniture. He still has some moving to do from his apartment, but being single he probably doesn't have too much to do. He did make me laugh when he told me that  if I went garage saleing to look for some dishes and pots and pans. I asked him what happened to what he already had. "Well you know mom, once we used them they kinda sat in the sink too long and got gross and we uhh, threw them away". LOL Thats what happens when two guys live together with no ladies around. His room mate just got married so I'm sure his new dishes will be taken care of, now  Eric's, I'm not sure. Anyway, I'm so proud of him, he has come a long way since his troubled teen years. Thank you God!

   Speaking of garage  sales, Kristy and I hit three this morning and all I found was two cute  throw pillows for the porch swing. Then to the farmers market where I picked up some tomatoes, eggplants, some bake goods, and a new plant for the  porch.  I love sitting out on the porch now more than ever. It really is like something brand new that we have.

When You Thought I Wasn't Looking

cutecolorsspkid5a.gif

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING

A message every adult should read because children
are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you hang my
first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately

wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a

stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind

to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make my

favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little
things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking I heard you say a

prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always
talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make a
meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I

learned that we all have to help take care of each

other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of

your time and money to help people who had nothing,
and I learned that those who have something should

give to those who don't.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you take care

of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have

to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw how you

handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't
feel good, and I learned that I would have to be

responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw tears come

from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things

hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw that you

cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking I learned most of
life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and

productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I looked at you and

wanted to say,' Thanks for all the things I saw when

you thought I wasn't looking.'

New homes for everyone

Posted in This and That

cutecolorsplant1a.gif

      First thanks  for all the wonderful comments on my "new" home. Thats what it feels like, a new home. My husband likes to go stand on the road  out front and just look at it. I have to say I did it too a couple of times. Every time we did something or added something, I ran to the road to see how it looked, LOL. This morning was the first time I had the time to actually enjoy my cup of coffee. I went sit at the table on the porch and watched the sun come up. Very nice and relaxing, God is good. Speaking of God, I have a little story to tell about me painting my house. Each day that we spent working on the house, we had to do it while watching the weather. We would paint a little and then it would rain. The day that we had  actually gotten the majority of the house painted, using a spray painter, the black clouds starting brewing from the west. My dd and I were working on the patio when we noticed this. I got on my hands and knees in the yard and asked God to please let it blow over. But alas it came, and boy how  it came. We all ran for cover inside the house. My dd said maybe God didn't hear me, I said yes he did, don't worry.  It was lunch time, so we went ahead and ate some hot dogs while inside. The whole time wondering what we were going to face outside. We were sure that the paint had ran all down the house, at least on one side for sure. Well we get outside and you would  never believe that the paint had NOT ran at all. It was a true miracle. The paint was still wet on two sides of the house when it started raining, so by law, it should have ran. I looked at my daughter and said, "I told you he heard me".

      I have a few things to still do around the place, but nothing that I need to jump on asap. A few more areas to pick up around and some weed eating to do around things. My dh was cutting the grass yesterday and we think the lawn mower died. It started smoking and made a loud noise, then went caput. Oh well, thank God we still have a push mower, I know my son isn't going to like that at all tho, LOL.

     And speaking of sons, my eldest son Eric, has a new home as well. He signed the papers yesterday. He is 24 years old and is in dept up to his eyeballs,  I'm so proud of him, LOL. Not for the debt thing, of coarse. He has come a long way since he was a teenager. This is the one who didn't finish high school. God saw the good in his heart. I let him know daily that everything he has, everything, is from God. He provides!

     Well let me head out to the kitchen, I have some catching up to do inside of my home now. Mt. Laundry awaits.

Pictures of the finished house

Posted in Around the home

  Thank you Jesus, we are done, lol. I don't think other than giving birth, have I worked so hard and wanted something to be over with so bad. But it's done. All done! And as promised here are some pictures. OK, in my last post I mentioned a "hot mess", well this was my front porch and yard on Friday morning.

 Here it is today.

Here is my patio Friday.  (I was really ashamed that it had gotten this bad). See all the bald spots from the preasure washer. I had to prime a good bit before painting it.  Can you tell it's a very old house, lol?

Here it is today.

I told my daughter that I wanted to paint this little table that I had laying around and was looking for two chairs to go with it. Well she headed off for some garage saleing Saturday morning and guess what she found for me. These two chairs. And they came the exact same color that I needed them to be, so i didn't even have to paint them.

Her is the front door, and yes Karen, I did get around to painting it red, lol.

A touch of whimsey.

 I pulled up all my plants, roses and all. Everything, so I could start with something a little more simple. I told my dd that I wasn't sure if I could afford anything right now in the way of flower beds. She said that we cound go look, we might find a good sale. Well, I was able to get these Mexican heather bushes that are regularly $3.98 a piece for all of 25 cents each. I got 16 for the price of one.

 Here is one more picture.

Well I hope you all like it. I think it came out fabulous, considering what it looked like before. LOL. Now people can come to my house and I won't feel embaressed, LOL.

And the winner is...........

Posted in Around the home

 The winner of my little Patriotic Prize Package is Rachel  over at Growing In Grace.  Congrats, I hope you enjoy your prize.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  I know I said I would draw on Saturday, but I did it tonight while I had a free minute.  It's 10:30 PM and I'm just getting to sit down for a minute at the computer now. We are in the process of painting the exterior of our home. Well, let me just say that it's one of the things that once you've started it, you kinda wish you wouldn't  have opened your mouth to start with. Whew! What a job. Today we spent the day prepping the house. It had to be sprayed with water and clorox, then a pressure washer had to be used to clean it. I am ashamed to say that the house hasn't been painted in about 10 years. We painted it when we first moved into it. So I tell you, when that pressure washer hit it, two things happened, the dirt came off and so did the paint. The poor house looks like it has the mange, big blad spots everywhere. I mean down to the bare wood, bald spots. So then that had to be scraped and primed. Things had to be moved away from the house, lattice had to be taken off of the bottom of the house, ACs had to be taken out of windows. When I tell you my yard is a "hot mess" , thats being nice.  I can't wait to this is over and done with.
    I am already sore and hurting, so I should be pretty much dead by the end of the weekend. And to top it off, it keeps raining on and off all day. So wish me luck and pray for some good weather for a few days. I will post some pictures hopefully  by Sunday.
Is anyone else having trouble?
 Is anyone else having trouble getting to my blog? Because I am, LOL. I don't have any trouble with  getting to everyone elses blogs, just my own. I recently went "upgrade" my internet subscription to higher speed. And ever since I did this a week or two ago, I have been having trouble here. But it's just here, on my own blog. It takes forever to come up. So I was wondering if anyone esle was having these problems or is it just me. Now I know how all of you with dial up feel LOL. It's not fun Brenda!
This Blog
This is a blog about my everyday life on the "plantation". I live on a working sugar cane plantation called Leighton, in a 70 year old house that needs a lot of TLC. I live here with my husband of 19 years, Brian, our three children, one Mom with Alzheimers, some chickens, a few cats, a little Chihuahua who thinks this house is hers, and God by my side at all times. I'm a sahm of 18 years now. I homeschool our youngest, who is 15 and we both love it. I am in the homesteading mode now in this season of my life. I think living the simple life is the best way of living life. So come join me as I scribble down the ins and outs of my life on the "Plantation" here in south Louisiana. Want some sweet tea?
