Wonderful Weekend

My weekend was a wonderful family filled one, with my brother and his family visiting from Georgia. They arrived late Thursday evening and just a few minutes ago pulled out for their trip back. It's a love hate thing when they come to visit, I love them coming, but I hate them leaving, lol. I always cry like a baby when they are loading up and we're getting in our goodbye hugs and I love yous. He is a precious person in my life,as is his wonderful wife Nancy and their son Shelton, who was named after my late father. It is so hard to say goodbye to them.
We did all the usuals, cook a lot and ate too much. Paul also came with me Friday morning to talk to moms doctor about the feeding tube issue. I love my moms doctor, and now I have even more respect for him. I always knew he was a sweet sweet guy, but Friday he spoke to us on a personal level and not on a medical level. He first started off by telling us that he is a Christian and that's how he runs his practice. He went on to tell us that he does not advise us to put a feeding tube in mom just yet. The reason is that she still moves around a bit too much and would more than likely pull it out of herself. Then we would have to put her in restraints, and that is where I would have to draw the line. I just couldn't see myself doing that. But he did say that whatever we wanted he would stand by and that it was our decisson.
My brother and I both agree that the feeding tube is not the way to go, BUT the other brother gave me the "so your just going to let mom starve to death" speach. This from the man that wanted mom out of her own house b/c you didn't feel you could change a diaper? So I don't take much of anything he says to heart. On a good note about this issue, mom has been eating a tad more these last few days. I got her to eat about one once of grilled fish last night and she is drinking more, so thats something anyway.
My brother and I also visited a near by nursing home. A family friend works there so she was really helpful and said that she would do what she could to get mom in if that is what we wanted. She gave us a tour of the facility and it was nice. But there was one thing that I noticed in the hour that we were there, I saw NO aids, nurses, help, or any type of care givers what so ever. My brother asked if the residents were checked on regularly and she said oh yes, every 20 to 30 minutes or so. We were there at least an hour and I saw no one anywhere. So needless to say I wasn't really to impressed. I have decided that for now mom is staying put with me. I hope to have her here with me till the end. I pray that God gives my the strength and abitly to handly this task. My dd is down with flu or something, so I'm on my own for a few days. And just changing her is a two person job. So God, I need that strength now if you don't mind, LOL.

On another note, my hubby went to Texas on his big fishing trip this weekend. They left Friday morning and got back Sunday around lunch. I was really impressed with their catch. He and his brother came home with an ice chest full of bass. The fish were all big and it didn't take too many to fill the ice chest either. So we had a fish fry last night. I grilled several of the bigger ones, which I ate two big pieces of myself. Ummm good.
Well I have a house to get back in order, a mom to tend to, and a son to teach, oh and did I mention that my hubby is home and in bed sick. LOL

I just wanted to let you know that I'd been thinking about you and said a little prayer :)
I don't know if you have a 'senior services' area near you, but my SIL works for a senior service and she said there is a lot of help there if you can get into contact with them. She said there are volunteers that come to your house to help where / when needed. This might not help you at all, but I thought of you the other day when she brought it up.
Sending hugs,
Lisa
